My "Project Obsrevatory" in Landers, California at the Riverside Astronomical Society Dark Sky Site is a 10 x 12 conventional roll off. Named because it was part of the Projects--the local neighborhood nickname for our rows of fifteen identical observatories.

At home, I image from the "Outhouse" Observatory, a 2 x 4 x 8 foot tall roll off Pier and scope cover. (See http://alexastro.com/Alex%20Home%20Page/Equipment/outhouse/outhouseindex.html for details). It is named because it looks like an old fashioned outhouse.

Alex

Must an observatory be permanent in order to have a name? Can I name my AstroGazer on a concrete pad that I plan on taking down for the winter and putting back up in the spring?

Yes, that's called a "portable observatory", of course, so you could called "(somename) Portable Observatory or, of course, just "( somename) Observatory.
