Really looking good. From the surroundings it looks like a good dark area for night time and should make for an excellent day time shoot'n spot too.

Looking really good. Wish that HWH existed here, but found the next best thing for my base.

Thanks Dave! Of course being the first day of Autumn it decided to rain...

Bob, it looks great, except the doors aren't plumb.

Looks like a dream come true, Bob! Those guys are putting it up fast. You'll be observing in no time.

I must say there is nothing quite like owning your own observatory. It's an icing on the cake kind of thing.

Keep us posted at each step.

Enjoy the sun,
Greg

Bob, I'm so glad your dream is becoming a reality! What a nice tribute to your Mom and Dad also! Your builders are doing a fantastic job, and we really enjoy coming along with you on the build!

Thanks for such great photos!

I'm located 100 miles (160 km) east from the Portland OR - Vancouver WA metro area, and 75 miles (120 km) south of Yakima WA. The only light pollution I can see is a very faint glow near the horizon from Goldendale (pop 3500 - arrow) 5 miles (8 km) to the south. So I'm really looking forward to getting back into some serious nighttime observing...

Great to see your dreams coming true. I have a cabin about 275 miles north of you and I hope to build my own observatory there someday as it's been a dream of mine since I was a kid too.

Thanks so much everyone!

Today the weather hindered things a little bit, but the warm room roof is now dried in, soffit and vents are in, west wall framing completed.

Which allowed the full open roof test - very smooth and no binding! All interior wall & door framing is done.

Tomorrow I start the electrical.

I finished most of the electrical wiring today. There are 6 circuits:

1. 240 V warm room wall heater.
2. North lights.
3. North power outlets.
4. South lights.
5. South power outlets.
6. Pier power outlets.

View to NW through the warm room walls.

Took advantage of a lull in activity to catch the noon sun due south at 45 degrees elevation, seen through the open roof.

Beautiful! I'm jealous.

The following query is not meant to be sarcastic - it is an honest question.

Around here (Michigan), code requires the use of "Hurricane Clips" to fasten rafters to top plates, to prevent lift-off (and possible blowing away) of some or all of the roof structure. With a rolling roof-section, is there some type of loose "strapping" (perhaps looped around the track structure and moving along same when the roof rolls) to prevent such a worst-case scenario during high-winds? Or is it just "clamped-down" when not "rolled-off"?
