These have nothing to do with astronomy yet they are an addition to my OBS for playing on days like today, cloudy and cold, like Jim ,hm insulators stated.

Hello Dan and Mike,Thank You both for your replies.
So,Yes I suppose it is a Man Cave. Is that necessarily a bad thing? I have yet to be able to use the scopes as the clouds seem to always get in the way.Fairly clear during the day, then just when I think I'll get to do some viewing,Bam! there they are.

The same has been true here in MD. I might convert completely to solar work.

Maple doesn't stain well, it tends to come out blotchy.
If you want color you'd be better off tinting your choice of finish or doing an intermediate coat of shellac followed by a finish topcoat.
Don't forget to finish the bottom the same as the top.

Hey Steve,Thanks,I have been jammin' a little lately since being a slightly on the bored side,Not.
Been quite some time since I hit the strings.
Man wish it was spring and could just say the heck with the clouds and open up to the few moments I might have.
Yet freezing for a couple minutes worth of viewing, and I mean only a couple minutes to me just not worth it.
Besides, trying to replace caps on my LX200 and time not on my side.
Too much to do and not enough hours in the day.
Too many people wanting my help.

dan k ,I appreciate your reply and advice.Thinking that maybe for now,I'll at least get a coat of sealer on the top and then go from there.
The current underside used to be the top and was already finished.
Because of the position I needed to place the top ,since the sink cutout area had to be part of it, I had to expose the unfinished ,re-sanded,underside. Thanks

Thanks Bob,and Happy Thanksgiving to you.
I like the name yet am sure the wife, kids and grandkids won't. They already consider it to be "Grandpa's House" as I now spend quite a bit of time out here.

Jim,Thanks for your continued replies.
I was thinking it/new counter, may look better without the stain.
You just clarified that for me,yet I think it should still have something on it to protect the wood from stain or moisture.
I do have some food safe mineral oil that is normally used for butcher blocks ,yet not so sure if this would be a good application for it.
Hand Rubbed Oil may be better.
Need to make up my mind soon so it does not get stained from anything.

Of course, you'll need to apply some sort of protective coat; I was thinking a heavy-duty clear varnish. A long time ago, I worked at a plant nursery that was also a florist shop, and on at least one occasion I remember painting wooden boards for the florist department (which always had plenty of water around) with something called (I think) marine varnish. That might be going overboard, if you'll pardon the pun, but something to consider.
