Good question. I would label this mount semi-permanent:

I currently have an outdoor carpeted deck, 3 urethane shock absorbers, a JMI Wheeley Bar portable mount with adjustable and locking bolts (mod) that stay centered in the convex shaped urethane pads then a Meade Standard Field Tripod holding an Atlas mount.

It can be quite steady most nights unless wind gusts kick in.

A pier would be best but will require a 3 ft foundation, 5 ft of concrete or steel pipe to get to the above flood level deck so I might be going 5-6 ft higher eventually.

Then there's the expense of a contractor doing it properly as in my experience if it's your first time, unknown variables prevail.

It's hard to tell, but does your roof roll on three tracks?

Looks like the center one is for opening/closing purposes, not a track(?).

No, the middle one is for future expansion. Ie. adding an automatic opener. It also provides some support for the front wall as the roof is rolled off. It is so heavy that before we added it the front wall would bow when rolling off due to the torque.

I "completed" this two years ago, an automated ROR observatory. I built, scavenged, re-purposed, etc. to do this on the cheap.

I've also written quite a bit about it on my site for my purposes (documentation) and to help others... www.stellarjourney.com
