Jupiter with 20" telescope.
      #3850170 - 06/06/10 03:57 PM

Greetings all!

Well i have been able to make a start on the Jupiter apparition at last. I used the University of leicester's 20" Cassegrain telescope and eventually, in the morning sky, we were able to take a look at Jupiter. Alas the impact region had moved off the disk, but the GRS was coming into view and the NEB was very active!

Here's the drawing!
-Paul.

Hallo Paul,

what a detailed Jupiter Sketch, great. I like the colouring you use. That is a really big teleskop ,it must be fun to observe with it.

Nice drawing! I love the color and the detail. 20 inches of aperture seems to make up for average to below average seeing. It almost looks like watercolor but I know that can't be--what media do you use?

Lovely sketch, Paul, with fantastic detail. Is it watercolour pencil?

Thanks all,

Believe it or not the method is very simple; no talent on my part! I use water colour pencils on a card outline of Jupiter. I first put in the details, stick the drawing into my jupiter log book, then paint a drop of water on and the colours become nice and natural as you see here!

Cheap, simple and very effective and accurate!

Paul,

I have seen some of your sketches somewhere in the past, Mars and Jupiter for sure. This particular sketch is beautifully done, thank you for posting here.

Paul,

An excellent observation of Jupiter. It is very impressive to not be able to see the usually prominent SEB over the southern hemisphere of the planet. The colors that you have recorded are accurate. I am glad that you obtained a view of the king of the planets through such a large reflector. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Carlos

Paul,

I am very excited about observing Jupiter this apparition. Now we have the Wesley Fireball to add to the fun. I look forward to eveyone's observations of Jupiter.

Carlos

beautiful sketch paul
i see a lot of people seeing vivid colours on jupiter and sometimes even saturn. i haven't seen any color on jupiter yet, perhaps my eyes aren't very sensitive for colours? do you actually see as much colour on jupiter through the ep as on your sketch
