Last weekend I finally had a chance to use my newly finished telescope away from home, and the views did not disappoint. Among the objects I observed, I drew M-3, M-64, M-82, M-104 and M-97, along with the objects NGC-2261 and NGC-4485 and it's companion, NGC-4490. It was amazing how bright some of those objects were despite the worsening sky transparency. Here is a drawing of M-97, whose eyes appeared prominently through an O-III filter.

Must be a pleasure to observe with such a homebuilt scope! Fine sketch, but the central star looks like a square (not round) on my screen.

Might have been a good on my part there. Anyway, this is a drawing of M-82 made the same night. It was indeed a long awaited pleasure to look as some DSO's without a streetlight nearby.

This is a drawing I made of M-64, whose black eye has never until now appeared that clearly to me visually.

This is M-3, which looked like an explosion in a glass factory, there was just too many stars to count all the way to the very bright but tiny inner core.

This is a drawing of M-104, which showed quite a bit of detail at 250X.

Great sketches. That 15 inch really pulls in the light.., your ability to capture that is excellent.

Taras,
Since you observe and sketch deep sky objects in profusion, a step up to larger aperture must be quite a thrill. Your sketches here are excellent. You can re-sketch all your old friends again and reach many more new targets.

Stupendous work there, Taras.
Your rendition of M82 is marvelous. So much fine detail you've managed to both see and lay down. And lovely mottling in M64 - gives it a lot of movement!
Good stuff,
Alex.

Very nice sketches! I love studying M82 through the eyepiece of my 10" reflector, just checking out all of the detail I could possibly see with the aperture. You certainly have caught a lot!

Taras,
An excellent set of deep sky observations made using your new instrument (Congratulations!). You have recorded all of the objects very nicely. The new 15-inch reflector must provide some very sharp and bright views of the objects rendered. Thank you sharing them with us all.

Thanks everyone, I'm glad everyone enjoyed them. There will of course be more to come, once some clear skies without the moon returns. Given the fantastic views the 10-inch gives from a dark site, I can only expect even better views through the 15-inch.

Boy, you're not kidding, I couldn't keep up with everything that was visible when I looked at the Orion Nebula. It gets even harder to sketch things through even larger telescopes, have you ever seen M-42 through a 25-inch? It starts to look like a Hubble photo. Thanks for the thumbs up by the way Rutilus and John, I'm very happy with how things have worked out since the telescope was two years in the making.
