The Orion Nebula is always a spectacular sight and obviously in my 18" Dob it makes you glued to the eyepiece for an hour. This particular drawing was made without the use of any nebular filter because I wanted to show the "natural" shades of the nebula. I even perceived a slight hint of orangy-red at the nebula's brightest borders! Of course, this to the detriment of the background nebulosity which wasn't as obvious as with the use of a filter. Nevertheless also NGC1980 was clearly visible in the upper-left corner. I hope you like it!
Cheers,
Peter

I totally agree! Perfect color rendition, including the pinkish edges, exactly as it appeared through my 18" two nights ago. SUPERB!!!!

Well, that's the whole idea. Just like when you're at the eyepiece and the more you look the more detail comes forward. Therefore your compliment means a lot to me because apparently I've reached my goal. Thanks! :-)

Caru' is a small Hamlet in the commune of Villa Minozzo, which lies in the mountains of the Parma-Reggio Emilia-Modena region. It's still un U spoilt and authentic part of Italy and that's why we chose to start a new life here (apart from the decent sky of course ) Thanks for the comment and tell your son he's always welcome.
@Chris, Laurent and Jim: also thank you for your kind words!

Thanks, Chris! Very kind of you!
No, it was all done by hand - white paper and pencil. But afterwards I did a long elaboration process on the pc, trying to make it look as realistically as possible (see my website for more info).
Cheers,
Peter

Excellent job, Pete. You're brave getting the subtle colour hues - far braver than me - but you've nailed it. If someone wants to know what it's like to look through an 18" dob at a showpiece nebula, you've shown them exactly. Mission accomplished
