My latest moonsketch was 4 months ago (thanks Belgian weather!), so the start was a little bit difficult. But what a joy to sketch the moon... in the snow (-8°C, no wind). The last 30 minutes more and more high clouds made details difficult to see. Hope you like it.

Hey Jef sorry to hear youve had a run of bad weather aswell! Its been unbelievable hasnt it? Lets hope it clears in time for the spring galaxies. The UK has had such a long spell of poor weather that it puts doubts in your mind that its all worth it but one night under the moon is enough eh? Thats a great sketch and clear skies to you!

Fabulous sketch, Jef! The detailed shadowwork makes it very realistic indeed. The whole work has a bit of a gloomy atmosphere, which truly reflects the barren and unwelcoming wasteland on our Moon.
Besides, Jef and Mike, if you're looking for a place with a quality sky and a much better chance for good weather, you know where to find me!

Thanks all! I discovered that I already made a sketch of this crater two years ago: same instrument, lower sun, lower magnification and only one white pastel (now I use some grey pastels too). Some progress was made

Jef,
Nice to see your 2 sketches side by side. You are definitely making progress and have your own unique style.
Luna is such a challenging target that drawing its features cannot help but demonstrate the different approaches different observers take.

Jef that's a nice study and the earlier sketch makes for a nice comparison. I've always liked how the A-B helps flesh out answers to questions of topography any one drawing might raise. I really want to do some lunar work too. You guys are inspiring.

Yikes I just read the aperture - 8 centimeters - bravo on the scope choice!!! My 70mm hadn't been out since before thanksgiving. I like seeing these classic apertures getting good use.
Fine work Jef!
