I see that I have brought the second sketch of this fine group to the forum. It's nice to see such great work here!

Here is my take on the group with my 8" dob.The skys where great and they popped right out at me leaving me no choice but to capture there likeness.

John,

This is a beautiful sketch. You have captured each galaxy perfectly.
I assume this is graphite on white paper - inverted?

Frank

John,
That is very nice sketch. I viewed the trio at a Messier Marathon the other night its a splendid sight which you have captured very well. Nice work.

Beautiful sketch, John! Your galaxies look very realistic and give me the feeling that I'm truly looking through the eyepiece. Excellent job!

Peter

What kind of pastel did you use? The realism you captured is outstanding!

That's a great bit of work, John. If it's just like looking through the eyepiece (which it is) then mission accomplished!

The pastels are dry, they are ground up on sand paper and painted onto the paper. The stars are done with white charcoal pencil as well as a white jell pen for the brighter ones.

Yes there is a very faint brightening across the center that shows the dust lane just up from it with averted vision. The brightening was also very uneven giving it more of a lumpy look but it still ran the length of the galaxy. The skys play a major roll in this observation. The sky's had just cleared so the transparency was great.

This is a really nice drawing! Exactly the same view I had in my eyepiece last week. I also like the layout, and hand written remarks.

That is exactly what I am trying to accomplish with my sketching.I true visual representation of what can be seen in the eyepieces under good conditions.
