Omega Centauri
      #6449434 - 04/05/14 05:36 PM Attachment (33 downloads)

Hello all,
I've finaly had an observing session after a 4 month break. So here is my last object - NGC5139.

I used a 10" Skywatcher Newtonian on EQ6, Vixen LVW 13mm eyepiece, under quite clear ~6.8m desert skies in Israel.
The object was obviously quite low (10 degrees) - but luckily for me there was no light pollution at south .
Original drawing can be found here:

Excellent rendition. Looks very similar to my view from here in south Florida on transparent evenings.Outstanding drawing and capture!

Excellent observation and sketch. It looks similar to what I observe from the southern tip of Florida.

Very good work on Omega Centauri. Your drawing shows what I see through a 15-inch from my area, where Omega Centauri is even lower in the sky and there's severe light pollution along the southern horizon. To me, it looks like an explosion in a glass factory.

Taras

Michael,

Excellent sketch.

The first time I saw this cluster at the eyepiece, I was surprised at its large size. It also is very even in brightness from edge to core.

Frank

Thanks for your comments =)

What I like about this object is huge amount of tiny stars (similar to M22, at larger scale of course).
By the way if you look carefully in the eyepice - there are two slighltly darker spots (sort of "eyes") in the cluster's heart.

Michael,

An outstanding observation of Omega Centauri, one of the most magnificent deep sky objects in the heavens. You have captured this impressive globular cluster very nicely. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Wonderful trophy Michael. From my latitude, Omega Centauri is invisible.

It's quite low here as well. But luckily above the horizon,
you can see it rising in this timelapse I've made a week before, from the same observing site (lower left corner, in the middle of video): https://vimeo.com/90681512
