Ken are you also going to go back and have the same conversation with Maurice and his images?

Thanks Mark for another pop at the best imager on the forum

All hail the mighty Maurice....self proclaimed best imager on the forum! I dont think i'll even bother to post anymore...Mallincam is now relegated to a door-stop!

Andy - I'm never aware of undue modesty on the Forum so I discarded my English reserve in a bit of cheeky self promotion for fun. Each and everyone here is TOPS ! And Andy don't do that with you MC - find a brick

Back to topic - here's M57 from last night via my Lodestar-M on Meade LX200 @ f/6.3. Scope drive playing up with the heat!! so a 12x5s [=60s] auto stack, darks, flats for each sub - fun to watch the image "grow".

How do you make the image "grow"?

Johnny,
If the integration time is, say, 8 seconds, the image is being updated only every 8 seconds. At 30 fps, you're seeing just the one and same image 240 times. The only difference between each frame is a *small* amount of noise due to the analog signal, just enough to make the view appear slightly 'organic.'

Now, if one were to capture a frame every 8 seconds and build up a several-second AVI file to play back at 30 fps, *that* would be something! That's because there is a *vastly* bigger difference in the noise inherent in the image than in the signal continually output by the camera.

Moromete,
Your latest crop of images have quite notable vignetting and field curvature. What kind of reducer are you using?

I don't but the cam s/ware does it automatically eg the image brightening as each 5s sub is registered and stacked in exps of 5s, 10s, 15s, 20s....to...60s gross exp

Some nice results posted Here's my final image M13 from last night

Finally got back to home after long trip. The moon is on the grow so I took the chance to take a peek with my XT8 and LodestarC. Man! The constellation did moved quite a bit in a few months. M51 was quite low at west after midnight. And it was hot at OK. So I wasn't too happy with this noisy M51 at F6 60sec:

m51_60s_2

Interestingly, as soon as I bump the integration time to 90s, I start to see quite star trail. I still need to work on my skill of using Atlas.

I was surprised to see the center star of M57 at 30s:

m57_30_p1_crop

It seemed that if my track was off a little bit, the center star will disappear.

Then I try M13. Not much time to view more on this one. The tracking was critical for cluster so I only did 30s. And for some reason there were too much blue. I need to did some color calibration on this one.

m13

I need better tracking for >60s integration. I am thinking of using the PHD and the auto guiding capability from LodestarC.

Coma cluster in near real time and stacking in live mode using DSS live. The observation was made in the spring with my CPC1100 alt/az and Brightstar Mammut Lyuba color camera. Some small color Brightness/Contrast modifications was done to lighten the background sky a bit, meanwhile, the images were taken. 30X20 sec exp.Galaxies around magnitude 17-18 are possible to detect

I used CG5-GT + C11 unguided + Alan Gee telecompressor + 0.5x GSO reducer + LodestarC => F/2.6-2.8.

My goal is to reach F/2 with C11. Hyperstar is not an option being very expensive for me.

First time I tried this reducer combo stars looked very bad. But now I had the idea to flip the lens inside the 0.5x GSO reducer and results are much better. Still there is coma, vignetting and strong field curvature but I'm happy because I managed to improve the image quality compared to past experiences.

I forgot to say I haven't used a Bahtinov Mask and polar alignment was very rough by putting Polaris only in the middle of the polar scope.

Lovely M13, Nytecam! You are a magician with LodestarC.

How do you use the LodestarC software or what steps do you take to stack those different exposures and apply darks automatically?

Reveal your secrets, Merlin!

No magic - it's the SX Lodestar-M [not Lodestar-C!] and its mono cam s/ware allows auto register and stack to included suitable dark and flat frames by checking a few s/ware boxes prior to starting exposure.

Unfortunately it won't work [to my knowledge] with the Lodestar-C colour cam as the pixel shift [during auto register between the subs] destroys the colour information But you can download the mono cam s/ware from Starlight Xpress site and run your Lodestar-C as a mono cam

Glenn, it's not field curvature. Actually it's a special 3D effect I applied to the images!
