Here are some follow up images taken with the same setup as before ie mono Lodestar + 14" SCT @F3.3. All are single shot with no involved processing. All images were between 60s and 180s. This time I used the Lodestar tool to capture the images and I no longer have the horizontal lines.

The version of Lodestar I got from the SX site is 1.1a with a date in 2008. Is there a newer version? The software is a bit clunky but does get the job done.

My Lodestar has a column defect I believe so I had Lodestar automatically subtract a dark frame. This produced some minor artifacts.

I used the non-linear stretch button with the default setting.

Here's M8 with no dark applied. I assume the vertical line is a column defect but I'd like to hear what others say.

And here's the dark automatically applied by the Lodestar software.

Helix.

Apologies for the dust bunnies. I'll clean the CCD tomorrow.

Nice captures!

Regarding the dark artifacts you can probably avoid them using a dark that is 50-60% of your exposure time.
The median filter in the software applied a couple of times can do miracles (depending on how many hot pixels you have).

Clear skies!

Nice image. Large aperture + fast optics is a win-win!

The Lodestar software has not change much so don't worry about the version date.

And as it has been pointed out: if you are not using dark, median filter will do the wonder for you.

If you DO use dark, make sure your "auto dark subtraction" does work. For example, take another dark with auto dark subtraction. If you see any hot pixel, then you didn't do it right. It is a little bit tricky to use it correctly. If you need more info, I'll post it in you other thread.

Thanks everyone.

I'll try the median filter but the auto dark subtraction seems to be working.

Here's M20 through the mono Lodestar + 14" SCT @F3.3. This is a single shot with a couple of clicks in the Lodestar software for processing.

M31 through the 90mm refractor. This isn't much to look at but I was pleased given how low it is for me and the light pollution in that direction.

Thanks. M20 and NGC253 were 2 minutes. M31 was 3 minutes although I don't think I gained much with the extra minute.

Gavin - you got up to speed very quickly with your new Lodestar-M cam - well done I rarely bother with the hi-res option of captures and use the 1x2 binned option for both Lodestar-C and M cams.

The 'double' exp via the hi-res mode causes, for me, the venitian blind effect due to constrantly changing transparency here in London. The s/ware does however have a 'Vertical Smoothing' button to remove this effect but needs repeated use to elliminate banding!

Keep up the good work

Join the fun of Lodestar with color model. Lodestar IS a really FUN cam. I am so so appreciate its high sensitivity and power software it came with. This is the conclusion of messing around many other software. IMO, this is the prefect CCD for the real-time viewing!

NGC 891. My favorite type of galaxy.

Orion XT8 @ F/6, Lodestar color 5 min. (This one is dim)
I'll also post the stacked & extremely thoroughly processed ones of the following shots at imaging forum.

Hohoo! Since last night was cold and clear, I also got one at lower south sky, which usually I cannot get to.

Sculptor with XT8 @ F6, Lodestar color 120 second, 1 frame BTW.

For those who like to dig out the potential. Here is the 7x2min shot!
