I have a few potential sites in mind. At this point, all I can say is that it will be in the Four Corners region; whether Arizona, New Mexico, Utah or Colorado is TBD. Whatever we come up with, it will include lots of interesting outdoor activities of both the daytime and nighttime varieties, some naturalism, archaeology and/or paleontology, geology, mineralogy, hiking, trekking, etc.

Have you ever been to Cherry Springs State Park in Pennsylvania?
It's quite nice for astronomy and about 5 hours from the Big Apple, give or take an hour for traffic depending on day and time of departure.

I've observed from the north of the Grand Canyon and had marvelously dark skies.
There are many decent viewing sites from north of Flagstaff to the AZ border.
Extreme SE AZ in the Chiricahua Mtns is also great viewing (that's SE of Tucson).
Don't overlook the Tonopah NV area, too. One of the "black" LP zones.

Thanks Don. But I'm looking for a higher density of ancestral puebloan ruins and/or native and historical rock art, which pushes me over closer to the Four Corners. There are lots of choices. Newly constituted Canyons of the Ancients National Monument looks intriguing. Mesa Verde is always inspiring, as are Hovenweep National Monument, Canyon de Chelly National Monument, Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park. Or there's my sentimental favorite in the region, Chaco Culture National Historical Park.
I'm also an Everett Reuss buff. Everett was my college roommate's uncle, though Everett disappeared (in the Escalante area) long before Brian was born. I was so excited when recently it was announced that they had located his remains including an apparent DNA match, and then deflated when we later learned that the dental features of the skull did not match Everett's dental records, and a later DNA test (conducted by the US military this time, rather than National Geographic) confirmed a non-match.

Indeed. One of the panels stolen and/or destroyed was this one, apparently.
That was at Red Rock Canyon. Even when we were there last June, there was a panel missing that appeared to have been sawed off.
