I am really impressed with your counterweight spring system. It's a pretty clever little piece of engineering. I love that scope and I wish I had one just like it so I could hike deep into the Sonoran and set up.

it's very similar to the litescope
I made a 3d model of a 12.5" litescope in sketchup.

Thanks guys for your kind words! On my homepage you can find some more pics...
You donīt need any tools to set it up or to collimate it except your hands (and a collimating laser)...
The complete scope wight is 10kg incl. eye piece, ready to work. So you can take it with in a air plane...
@Danny: I saw a litescope prototype some years ago, before they start to produce them, and there were some details, which would not work very well. Maybe they have fixed those things now, I donīt know. But this is my own concept...

I don't have much luck with stains on plywood, probably because I just don't have enough experience with it. The secondary cage and mirror box have polyurethane on them, nothing else and I think I'll do the same with the rocker box and ground board. I kinda like the look of baltic birch with poly on it.

My brother picked up a Meade DS 114 for free at a yard sale - it had sat outside for several years uncovered, so the mirrors were ruined and everything was rusted. The only thing salvageable were the tube & tube rings, mirror cell, and secondary holder & spider.
I got a 4" f/6 Carton primary mirror for $30 from CN classifieds, had an old Orion 1" secondary sitting around that fit the existing secondary holder perfectly, and also had an old JMI DX3 focuser laying around that I wasn't using.
I cut the tube down for the shorter focal length, drilled the focuser & other holes, then sanded/primed, & painted the tube "TeleVue green" . I replaced all of the rusty nuts, bolts, and springs and put it back together.
It works pretty good - I plan to mount it as a "super finder" outboard on the altitude axis on my 12.5" Dob.

This is a 12" cassegrain with f3 primary and f15 overall. A diagonal between the primary and secondary mirrors sends the image to the focuser on the side of the 'tube.'
