Thanks for the links.
I like to think appearance inside the scope is the only thing that matters. In reality, that nasty scratch on my baby newt just bugs me. I was just noodling over disassembling and painting the little sucker. That's a lot of work compared to wrapping it.

you can always clear several coats of catalyzed poly over top of the vinyl to protect the .002in thk surface.

Select vinyl finish "Black 1080-CF12" and you can awe people with your carbon fiber telescope!

(Could be a boon to people who actually build their own carbon fiber tube for real, but find it less than cosmetically perfect.)

If you add a temperature compensating focuser then most wouldn't even know that the CTE of the faux carbon tube wasn't low. But you would look cool.

I can't paint without a mistake and many of us are compulsive perfectionists so I've ruined things because of that little scratch.

Dare I imitate this beauty?
...don't like it ? peel it off, apply Goo Gone to the ota and your right back where you started.

Very nice, Doug.

Was that matte finish the result of spraying - or wrapping?

It's too good a finish for me to have painted it Bob and you should know that my lack of patience will result in drips, runs and errors, A man should know his limitations

Note how a matte finish mutes any metallic reflectivity.

thanks just the same

Reminds me of the Monokote trend about a decade or so ago.

I like that flat-black SCT. Darth Vader's scope.

That's the Mississippi and during the 35 ft. crest last week it came within just 1 foot of the floor of my stilted observation deck. As I approached it, I felt that I was now on the deck of a whaling ship in the Aleutian islands with a harpoon launcher...but I have one hell of an imagination - DG Imagineer

What would be the best color for quickest thermal stabilization?

Probably white, since it rejects sunlight but should be fairly dark in IR.

I remember a thread where a fellow did his stc this way, can't find it now. I was a bit concerned about the joint/splice appearance, but looking at my C1100 HD tube it seems Celestron wasn't too worried about it!
