Ronchiscreens.com still in bizness?
      #5919677 - 06/13/13 10:28 PM

I ordered a couple screens from this guy yesterday, but have received no confirmation from them. Just sent an email to the address on their help page, and it is bounced back as "No such user". Tried again, same results.

Has anyone successfully done business with them recently?

Are there any good alternatives? I'd rather not mess around with situations like this.

That's odd. Ordered several about a month ago; quick service, no problems.

I ordered two screens from Ronchiscreens about 6 weeks ago. I don't recall getting a confirmation but the screens arrived quickly. Their screens worked better than a screen that I purchased years ago from Willmann-Bell.

I just got a bounce back also. I see at the bottom of the page he's into wedding gowns.

Likewise. I was working out of town all day, but upon return, there was an email from Joe followed by a shipping confirmation a few hours later.

I got my 133 and 250 LPI screens yesterday and used them last night. Very useful tools, indeed. Boy, is it absolutely critical to keep one's eye in exactly the right position when using it... more sensitive than any eyepiece I've encountered by far... I'm thinking a camera setup (attached to the focuser body and not the drawtube) would aid in the image interpretation, yes?

I just shoot afocal with my 18-55 inexpensive zoom on a manual gem mount.

Danny, I've seen that pic of yours and that seems to be the way to go. Can you recommend an afocal mount? Some I've seen look pretty cheesy.

Hmmm... interesting... but I don't see a price listed.

But seriously, you can perfectly hold the camera lens in exactly the needed XYZ coordinate to take an accurate photo?

just tested my tv genensis sdf with the 250 screen last night. yeah its soft but it looks like it did with the eye so I know its on point. top right is clipped with my finger trying to block out stray light with an old pancake lens that gets down to f1.4.

boy I want those new cameras that go to 12k iso.

Nice. I have used my 250lpi screen but haven't tried photo'ing it yet. I'm going to try my old Canon S30, it was made before pixel count craze took over and gives some of the most noise-free images I've seen.

So what do you see in that image? The lower left quadrant looks suspect to me.

On my dobs, I don't see any sign of edge issues with the Ronchi, even though the star test is definitely cleaned up with an aperture mask. I was hoping Ronchi would be more revealing of edge issues...

a normal star test does not show any sign of an edge issue

I tried to take an afocal Ronchi shot tonight, with zero success. Nothing but black screen How high are you cranking the camera's ISO?

Another couple reality-check questions for the experienced Ronchi testers. Last night, TDE was very visible in the outfocus, but not nearly so much in the infocus. Is that as it should be?

And if the lines start their "turn" say 10% of the radius from the edge, I can translate that proportionally into the size of edge mask required to hide it?

I made my iso as high as it goes and my lens was at f1.2...still had to hold it for a couple of seconds.

can you sketch what you saw and post it?

OK, I'll try again tonight. My drawing skills are marginal at best...
