Telrad Charts: Have You Seen This?
      #2422685 - 05/27/08 02:05 PM

csa/Montana (Carol), Equipment forum mod and Beginners' Forum regular, has 'best of' post in the Equipment forum here on CN. In it she includes what is probably the most complete collection links to Telrad charts available online I have ever seen. Given how often the venerable Telrad is discussed here, I thought it would be a good idea to point this thread out.

Carol's Picks

There is a ton of very useful information gathered there, as well. No newbie amatuer astronomer should miss it!

This should thread be a sticky there is sooo much info in Carol,s picks. I have looked at it several times just too much info to absorb at once. I come back to it often I have printed a catalog of the messier objects by constellation. Such great info. Ps the reason I believe it should be a sticky is new comers to the site would see it right away. I for one never figured out the best of at the top of each forum for a while.

Yeah, that must be it!

And I am of Scots ancestry. Halfway. The other half is mostly Irish. Mostly. So I'm half Scot, though not even distantly related to Scott although I probably don't equal a half Scott, if you take my meaning.

That doesn't quite add up, somehow...

The Carol's Picks looks great, but if you have the time, could the headings be bolded and the links indented?

It's hard to read as a long scrolling list... and I keep clicking on the non-underlined phrases!

Paul, you are the first to mention you have a difficult time reading the lists. It took a great deal of time to put the lists together; It could be revamped, but I don't know when I'd be able to get to it.

I appreciate how much time it takes to assemble such lists! I know from first-hand experience.

For the nonce, simply putting in a blank line between sections would help. And that shouldn't take very long at all!

In fact, if you send me the post with raw text URLs, I'll reformat it, including bolded headings and indentations (if CN has a way of doing tabbed or blank space indents).

(I tried copying it directly, but the links didn't come over!)
------------------------

I've now attached a Word version of your post, with hyperlinks. (It has the bracketed b symbols for bolding the headings and a series of dots to achieve the indentation.) Maybe that will make this easier for you to post somewhere. I'm still trying to figure out how to copy and paste a set of named hyperlinks directly into a CN post! The names come through but not the links!

This is my "failed" attempt. No hyperlinks. Maybe there's another, better way to achieve indentations!

Paul, I appreciate what you are trying to do; however, it seems very easy to navigate; The colored underlined links stand out under the headings very well. Most of the "best of" lists are done this way.

With future listings, we certainly can take your suggestions into consideration.

Again, thanks!

Carol, your browser must work differently (or is there some CN setting that controls that?). All the text and links are the same color on mine, and there is no spacing, so it all runs together! I gave up trying to wade through it, even though I knew there were some goodies. (And I later discovered there were as I played with the text and links!)

Rather than simply kvetch, I was hoping to contribute to the site by doing this for you all! it only took me a couple of search and replaces to get the formatting looking good, including bolded headings. But the links are still pesky.

I'll wager that many, if not most, CN users would find the reformatted type of page easier to navigate, so I'm glad you all will think seriously about a "new and improved" look going forward.

Best wishes and you're welcome!

Those are great...I came across many of those charts about 3 years ago when I was searching the net. I had just purchased a 12" dob and a telrad finder. I printed out almost everyone of the charts and made my own Telrad finder charts in a bound format....I carry these with me anytime im out observing...thanks for sharing
