I am sick of clouds

Got my scope setup tonight. While letting it cool down, the clouds started rolling in. I got maybe an hour of viewing the moon some. But I will say my new observing chair is comfy.

You think you have it bad. My new scope is coming tomorrow (too bad the guy didn't ship it two day). This whole weekend was perfectly clear. Starting tomorrow it's cloudy all week!! Sheesh!

That stinks. What made it really bad for me. The day my scope arrived. The sky was crystal clear. The first week I had my scope I was able to get it out for 2 more days. Decided a good observing chair was needed. I ordered it and it just went down hill from there.

Haven't had a decent nights view in a couple of months. On the couple of nights we have had that have been clear, the turbulent air has the stars (and sometimes even Jupiter) twinkling their little hearts out, so viewing was worthless.

It got clear last night & early morning but the brightness of the Moon & cold temps. kept me indoors. I've only had my scope out 3 times since early January with total viewing time 1 hour.

Depending on this new Winter storm my area is expecting 1 to 8 inches of snow with 3-6 inches most likely.

It snowed yesterday, all day, all night, about 12" so far. Supposed to clear up later today...and cloud up again tonight....figures.

Clouds I can deal with. What is annoying are car dealerships with ultra bright lights in their parking lot. The light pollution is so bad that for miles in every direction that part of the sky is basically useless for viewing. No wonder they jack the prices up so much. They have to pay their ridiculous light bill and then add it into the cost of the car.

I know what you mean, obin.. My problem is I have been enjoying the main runway at the airport being closed for resurfacing. When it opens back up, I know my light pollution is going to get a whole lot worse. Might have get a bigger scope..

Ever since I got my new mount, it's been cloudy every day I'm not working. As soon as I am working "POOF!", not a cloud in the sky. I work 24hr shifts, so it's a little rough on telescopes to get bounced around for that long, so I can't bring one of my big ones with . I'm seriously considering putting one of them on the roof of my firehouse. I know it won t disappear from that spot.

Hold on here. How long have governments been documenting weather in a somewhat reliable manner? About 120 years here in the US. How long up there?

Anyway, let's say it's 150 years. Let's say it's 500 years. What is that compared to 4.5 billion years this earth has been flying around our Sun?

When we feel frustrated by the weather, I think we need some perspective that helps us understand we don't know much of anything about the weather, and especially why.

Well I got a couple nights in however it snowed yesterday again and now its clouded solid with drizzle. Was hoping it would hold out for the full moon, was lucky I got something last night even with the thin clouds..

I find nights with big fluffy clouds passing by offer incredible views. Yes, it gets obstructed at times but the amazingly clear air between them delivers jewels.

Straight overcast, well, yeah I can do without.

I could move somewhere with clear air all the time, but I'd miss my family. A high altitude plateau in Chile appeals to me in so many ways, but there are more than a few reasonable arguments to the contrary.

I could deal with big fluffy clouds.. It's the overcast skies and rain. They are saying this has been the third wettest February on record for SC.. I am hoping for lots of clear skies for March..

I'm sick of the clouds too. I bought a 2" visual back, an expensive 2" ep and a nice pair of bino's many weeks ago and really have had only a couple good, dark nights with them. And what's up with the wind? We've had March winds all winter long, along with April showers in January and February... it's all messed up!

I torcher myself on cloudy nights by looking at some "wazzup for tonight" site.

I'm still in reverse-curse: no scope and clear skies... not only clear skies.. but I think I might, maybe live in green zone.

The weatherman just said another week of dark, gray dreary weather due to a low pressure system that's stalled over the northeast. Swell.

Was totally clear bright day and then clouded over after the sun set yesterday. This morning again it has now totally cleared, nothing like being teased and in the evening running out every hour to see if its cleared up LOL.

Tonight, Saturday March 2, 2013 was my dark night and though the Clear Sky Clock showed no clouds, it lied. The sky was overcast with high thin to chunky clouds that have continued to drift over. We finally called it off at 4 PM. There is a hole coming but it will reach Las Vegas just about the time the moon rises, so it's not worth it to bother. I feel your pain!

For the past several years, the Clear Sky Clock has increasingly become inaccurate in Mobile. Often when clear, transparent skies are forecast, it is not only overcast, it's raining. During the past three montths, I can only think of two or three nights where the skies were tolerable for observing DSO's at lower magnifications. The seeing here has been poor to so bad I cannot focus my telescopes at all.

Why not just print one that, instead of numbering the days, just says Yes or No. There will have to be some yes's, right?

The one thing it does not do here, is snow. If that happenes the way it does where you are, then something drastic has happened. We were getting severe thunderstorms and a tornado almost hit my neighborhood on Christmas Day. That is not normal even in the Deep South.

Cool. A time lapse of snow would be cool. Post a link to the video if you decide to do that.

According to the weather channel last night, it was supposed to be sunny and partly cloudy for tonight. IT LIED!!! It's completely overcast.

"LIED", Noooooooo they dont do that LOL, thats why I bought an outside thermometer so I actually know the temp, Windows are great to discover that the forecast Light snow is Bs when I can see right now its almost horizontal LOL.
Im waiting for 1 hour of video and if it turns out ok I will post

It has been one of those winters, at least here on the East Coast of the US. Lots of clouds, lots of drizzle or flurries, and not much else.

Of course, at least clouds go away, while trees you don't own stay there - ah, well... here's to clear skies eventually!

Cool vid, Neilmac. Around 4:25 or so, you can see it pick up on the snow coming down.

When I took the garbage out last night around 6ish or so, the sky was overcast with thick clouds. Went to bed kind of early, around 8ish. Woke up at 5am to get ready for work. Walked outside, sky was freakin CRYSTAL CLEAR!!!! #$%%^%#@$% If I would have known, I would have gotten up around 3am and setup the scope. UGH!!!!! I can't win.

Yup thats why Ive been thinking of placing a remote webcam outside to check the skies.
We still have snow falling even though its light now lol. The +10c we had was enough to melt most of the snow only to be replaced once again LOL.

Here near Syracuse in Central New York, we 'enjoy' the least amount of clear skies of any community area of similar size except sometimes the Seattle area.

We haven't had a single day this year when there was no snow or ice falling. The Global Weather Center's long range predicted warm up for March appears to be inaccurate. Today it is snowing moderately, probably enough to require shoveling tonight if it keeps up. We already have an average seasons worth of snow with the total being 170".

Well Im hoping with all the snow it will empty the sky and give a small window before it replenishes up again LOL.
Stopped snowing an hour ago with the odd swift peak by the sun, still windy though at -15c.

My reverse curse of clear skies and no scope is about to become the traditional curse. New scope to arrive Saturday and the forecast is thunderstorms ! Yee haw ! *And*... Sean Carroll is coming to my little town of 4,000 on the 13th... (sinks to knees in groupie reverence). I'm gona ask him to autograph my scope ;-)

Bought a new LX 200 3 weeks ago....which precipitated 13 cloudy days in a row. 2 semi-clear nights, and cloudy again.....supposed to be clear tonight, but I won't hold my breath.

Please!! Nobody hate me, but the skies cleared up.

Enjoyed 3 nice hours of observing Jupiter, M42, and some various stars. I came in to warm up some. Going to go back out around 1ish to look at Saturn.
