The day has finally arrived!!
      #6487820 - 04/25/14 01:16 PM

Well thank you to all who have generously offered me advice in the CN's forums. I have been pondering the purchase of a telescope for the last couple years and the post man dropped a pick-up slip in the box today. By late tonight I should have me hands on my first telescope. I'm very excited and oddly nervous at the same time. I'd like to apologize and thank you in advance for the onslaught of questions coming your way...:) unfortunately it appears we are in for several days of rain, but that seems pretty standard upon delivery of a new scope...

At least take heed that it must be a very good scope, since the New Telescope Curse is bringing several days of rain. A lesser scope would only warrant one rainy day.

Lol!! I fully expected some heat for this one... I started out saving for a 4se and then when I hit that goal I said to myself "Well I don't want to regret jumping the gun, I better save for a 6se". That internal dialogue continued on leading to the 8se and well what can I say two years later that internal battle landed me at the CGEM1100... I'm very stoked and hopefully this poor weather will not last as long as the forcast is currently indicating. I've waited two years for this and will not rush it now... Shortly I will get my rugrats to bed and take my time unboxing and enjoy every moment. Ill post up proof of possession in the coming hours...:)

Thank you all for the positive comments! I'm going to go ahead and get this photo out of the way in hopes this poor weather trend can then move along...

an excellent choice for a scope. I am a Meade man myself, but if things don't work out with them over the long-term I have been eyeing some Celestron scopes already. I would have to say without reservation that my choice would have been the same as yours hands down! Lots of aperature for DSOs yet just at the border of portability in size and weight. And on a GEM mount (especially the CGEM)? Wow! You will have excellent results in astrophotography as well with the right focal reducer and camera set up.

Congrats BIG TIME!

Thats a great first scope. You should be set for a while. My first scope was a celestron 70 mm refractor on a cheap goto that fried its self after a year. Once again you have a very nice scope and from what I hear a great mount.

I would love to think this new scope has that sort of influence...
However I'm up in northern Alberta.

Congratulations, that telescope will show you a LOT of deep sky objects from a reasonably dark site. You will want to familiarize yourself with it before taking it to a dark site. I suggest starting with the Moon, planets and bright deep sky objects you can see at home to learn your way around the telescope and the sky. If you haven't done so already, join a local club so you can if needed get hands on help and access to darker skies than you can get at home. It's always nice to observe with likeminded folks. Clear skies!

Taras

Congrats! Very nice setup! I too am also a Meade Man like LoveChina61 here...but Celestron is doing alright these days, you should be very happy with it. Take your time, learn everything about the setup, how everything works and you will be good to go.

Clear Skies!

I must admit I seriously underestimated the influence of these new scopes on local weather patterns... It can clear off any time now!!!

In the mean time I've been enjoying getting to know the gear and it's setup procedures.

Thanks again for you positive post. I'm very excited to get viewing!!
