      #2536701 - 07/23/08 02:23 PM

I thought I would ask. I've seen this on the other forums so I thought why not on the binoculars forum? Only the truth please

I'll start:

I am not waiting for them because the shop is closed but i want defintely some Helios 10 x50 Nature sport bino's. There about thesame as the Orion Ultraview 10X50.
The shop is selling out, prices 40% off...incredible bargain...
I allready bought the 8X40's...i think i am crazy but they are so nice...can't resist the optics...certainly not those at such a price...

The Garrett RA 70’s sound nice; and the extra QA effort from that vendor may be just what this series needed to succeed...

I’m waiting on a pair of Swift 8x40 Falcon (model 702 or 704?, 9 degree stated FOV, fully coated, focus lock on CF) to arrive from Goodwill. I hope they will do double duty for astronomy and birding.

I’ll thank Ed again here for the bino-test veteran Bushnell 10x50 Legend Porro ~ 6+ degree FOV. Those and a pair of Minolta Standard MK 10x50 are our ‘deep’ astronomy binoculars. Recently we took the Bushnell to over 8,000 feet and shared glimpses of the NA Nebula area with them, and used them to help star-hop a scope around a sky filled with so many stars that smaller guidepost constellations like Sagitta were hard to find amidst all the fainter stars and Milky Way.

I'm waiting for a pair of Sears 7x35 12 degree SWA's I just bought to come back from Suddarth Optical Repair that I sent Cory for a collimation/checkout. And I'm waiting for clear skies to really get a chance to check out my new Garret BT70 RA's.. we've had horrible skies here in NE Florida the past several weeks... with an intense thunderstorm last night... including a building hit here on base where I work... I saw the strike. Today they have no electricity, computers or phones. This morning the moon was just barely visible through the high cloud cover. First time I've seen it in a few weeks.
If the question was what binoculars am I dreaming of- Simple... a good quality pair of 100mm right angles!

And a wonderful 4.25" Delmarva Shiefspiegler!
Some good friends, made here on C/N.

I have just received an email message saying that my Pentax 10x50 PCF WP II has been shipped! Can't wait... For several weeks we have had cloudy skies (and rain). I hope for some clear skies now that my binoculars are on the way. I have no telescope (yet) and my Pentax 8x25 UCF G is not ideal for astronomy (though I see more with it than by naked eye). The expectations are high!

Hey Bert,
Welcome to CN

Where did you buy them?
That Pentax should be excellent stuff. Even better then a Orion ultraview...

I'm not waiting for my binos - it's waiting for me in its snug little case each clear night. So when I can, I go out with them (a date?) and give it lots of attention and love and in return, it gives me wonderful views of the night sky.

Years ago I bought another pair (bigger/better) and the rivalry between them still goes on to this day. So far, so good. So I won't disappoint them by getting another pair Mr Q

Thanks for the welcome.

I ordered the binoculars from the Foto Rubens webstore (Wilrijk). I made my choice based on the excellent CN reviews, availability and my positive experience with Pentax cameras and lenses.

Wes,

I have a similiar pair of Sears 7 x 35 super wides. I think I'll send mine to Cory also because the grandkids dropped them and they are out of collimation.

I'm still waiting for SOMEBODY within the NIKON organisation to REALISE that if 15 x 60 and 20 x 80 versions of the Superior E Porros series became available , at prices as relatively reasonable and competitive as the existing models were / are , there would be a MUCH larger potential purchasing populace prepared to buy them than anyone within the Nikon organisation appears to think .

Got to agree with you 100% Kenny. I just can't see it happening in the present economic climate.

Kenny, the 8x32,10x42 and 12x50 Nikon Superior E's are handheld porro's and 15x60/20x80 Nikon Superior E's would need to be tripod mounted and cost well over $1,000 USD or 3x as much as Garrett® Signature 15x70 HD-WP's .

*PARTS* for a bino project are what I'm waitin' on. Namely, 4X 1.8" m.a. dielectric diagonals, to use as optical-path fold mirrors. They'll go into a 120mm f/5 right angle (by use of BIG war surplus, high quality, coated Amici prisms). At the eye end; 30mm, 80 deg. a.f., and 13mm Ethos.

Home-made 11X50 right angle bino, 8.1 deg. FOV
Modified 26X100 bino, 3.5 deg. FOV
