24mm Panoptics are my favorite.
14mm 82 AFOV Explore Scientific are my backup.
Briefly had a pair or 10mm Ethos but returned one.

More importantly are my Denk II POWERSITCHES (1.4X DUAL ARM, PLUS DUAL ARM 1X REDUCER/MULTIPLIER), AND 3 ocs POWERS (1.2X mULIT PURPOSE, 1.4X NEWTONIAN, AND MULTIPLIER); YIELDING 3X3X3=27 POWERS PER EYEPIECE OR 54 POWER OPTIONS IN TOTAL. I ALSO JUST AQUIRED A 1.2X 45MM CLEAR APERTURE MULTIPIRPOSE ocs, AND AM AWAING >45MM CLEAR APERTURE EXTENSION TUBES TO PREVENT/REDUCE VIGNETTING AT LOWEST POWER MODE WITH GREATEST INFOCUS (WITH EXTENSION TUBES).
sUPOSEDLY THIS IS THE SAME POWER, BUT i NOTICE A DIFFERENCE WHICH IS PROBABLY DUE TO ocs LENGTH SPACING.

Killdabuddha: I believe ES68 28mm eyepieces are 2" diameter, so you'll have to invest in Siebert's binoviewers, I think. Tim

Tim,

We're usin the 24mms, not the 28s...but I was tempted to try but decided against cuz the IPD woulda been sketchy. Otherwise, we have 2" focusers (note the 31mm Aspherics, and hopefully some day the 36mms). While not usin binoviewers, we're still bino-viewin. And yeah, one reason was the cost of Harry's. Those were the first bino-viewers I ever saw, and they made quite an impression. (And we're in central NJ if yer interested. Otherwise, maybe we'll cya at Cherry Springs.)

My current favorites are 17mm and 25mm Sterling Plossls, in a Mark V. Almost no astigmatism but slight distortion toward the outside of the field. Super sharp, excellent coatings and very good build.

Tanveer.

I'm using the Denk II Universal PxS.

My pair of eyepieces are:

XW 20s
ZAO-II 16s & 10s

To tell the truth, I've tried a lot of eyepieces - 24 Pans, modified 22 Pans, 16 Naglers, several sizes of Radians. I find I get the best view when I have about 40-50 degrees field. The eye relief and easy pupil placement just works for me.

So... with Denks mounted on my TOA 150 it is

Tak LE 30 mm (It takes a bit of experimenting but this combination can achieve focus if you use the Tak diagonal and a part for the FSQ 106.)
ZA II 16 mm
ZA II 10 mm
Tak LE 7.5 mm

When appropriate, I will insert a 1.6x Barlow between the optics and the diagonal - this works quite well for white light solar and makes the effective focal length about 2100 mm.

NJ - I have come to similar conclusions. 95% of my bino use is for lunar/planetary, I usually only use 1 or 2 focal lengths of the SPL's on given night, like to keep the 16mm and 25mm's for an occasional look at the brighter DSO's...usually have the 1.7x corrector or Barcon in there for planetary...

25mm Clave Plossl
16mm Olympus GSWH (micro)
12mm AP SPL
10mm AP SPL
8mm AP SPL

I'm not sure what you mean, "bino-viewin" when not using binoviewers. If you are interested in using the 28mm ES pairs, the PD problem may be less noticeable in Harry's 2" binoviewers because of the way the eyepiece holders are designed; you may want to talk to Mr. Siebert about this. Tim

Tim,

We have a bino-scope, but EP-wise I reckon we have the same experiences/limitations as bino-viewer users. As for the 28mm ES 68*s, these were just at the limit of my IPD so we went with the 24mms instead. But the (2") Aspherics (both the 31- and the 36mms) are a narrower configuration/barrel (for anyone with Siebert's 2" viewers). As for Harry...what a great guy. We have his Barlows (with self-centering sleeve). His were the first bino-viewers we ever saw, but the cost seemed prohibitive. Then we learned about bino-scopes.

I imagine the longer focal length UO Orthos and BGOs are great for binoviewing in SCTs. They make sense, too, in Newts that need to use an OCA in order to come to focus.

My eyepieces in all my Newts need at least a 1.9x OCA to compensate for having not enough in-focus. So with the binoviewer, a 25mm Ortho has an effective focal length of about 13mm, an 18mm becomes about 9.5mm, and a 12.5mm yields about 6.6mm.

Mike

I use Brandons primarily because of their ultra-light weight and high quality, Televue 8,11,26mm plossls, Meade SWA 20mm's, ES 82* 14mm's and Televue Nagler 4.8mm's.

Do you notice any field curvature with those ES 82 14's? When I observed Jupiter with my pair of ES 82 14's in my 8" f/6 or 10" f/4.8 Dobs, there was obvious FC as I allowed the image to drift across the FOV. Too much FC for my eyes to accommodate. My Newts have virtually nil FC, and my eyes have a narrow range of focus, so the eyepieces are to blame. What type of scope do you use the 14's in?

Mike
