I use the hybrid charts (the M series). I have the A, B and C sets also but have not printed the C set out. Over 500 charts is just a bit much for my needs at the moment.
I find the M set excellent and while at times a little cluttered around the rich regions such as Sag and Car, LMC and SMC, still very good. I have them printed as A3 and use them by the telescope.
Being a bit of a double star fan I note that your new charts seem to have diminished the number of them and their labelling on the charts themselves?
I like the companion idea and look forward to your next edition.

Personally, my favourite set is also the hybrid one (210 charts set): it has the detail level I need for most of my DS observations; I just use a low-scale set of 20 accompanying index charts to pick up the best objects and the centers of the 210 charts (not linked). But there are people who want more or less detail, and we are trying to satisfy the needs of everybody, just getting the set (or sets) that better fits their tastes.
This panoramic edition is equivalent (but far more powerful) to Sky Atlas 2000, with a quite high limiting magnitude and larger fonts. We had to remove double stars labels to reduce cluttering: the scale of the charts does not allow labelling them and including labels implied reducing the number of deep sky objets. We decided that it was an acceptable sacrifice, since double stars are mostly drawn properly oriented (position angle) and logaritmic scale (distance), the secondary star was also plotted (secondary star, except when it is beyond the star threshold), and their data are available in the companion catalogue (around 160 two-columns MS word document). All double stars in the database whose main star is below the star limit (9.75 mag) are marked, with a full symbol when the secondary is brighter than 9.75 mag, or with an horizontal line when they are fainter. For more stars, labels, and more detail... you have the B, C and Z sets!!!!
It is quite difficult to balance all these decissions, and others as number of charts, font sizes, DSO specification for plots, etc. For that reason we need time and feedback...

Hi, I'm really looking forward to the next edition to print my own copy of this magnificent atlas! Incredible details and much more deepsky objects than in any other printed atlas!
Will the atlas page numbers change in the new editions? We implemented code to automatically calculate the atlas page numbers (B - BC and C) for the latest version of our deepsky observation program DeepskyLog.
Keep up the good work!

I'm working through the astronomical league's double star list and would appreciate labels on those 100 double stars. With my little refractor and my light polluted skies, double stars are at least something I can see I didn't have any trouble finding the double stars I was looking for last night using the new charts. Perhaps the astronomical league lists can give you an idea of random things that you could label. I know that they aren't usually more functional, but I love color charts and can't wait to see them. I'm sure I'll love the new edition, extra double star labels or not steve

Hi Jose & Casey! U've given excellent new year gift for all the deep sky lovers. Now time to search good A3 printers!
I downloaded 1st 20 page part only since u suggested color maps are coming!
I was pleased to see big nebulae like california neb.free of symbols but some like North America neb still depict both outline+symbol which is bit crowding in already object rich field. Is it possible to discard all square symbols selectively where neb.outline is present in this B/w version also?It reduces eye catchy look of these objects but it should be ok since it also reduces cluttering. For big nebulae IMHO,The symbol is only useful in case to know if its cluster+Neb or only neb.Else the nice outlines are present for more precise location for lot of objects in this pano map.The filled color in color version wil look even better.Wow! how many days we've to wait for it?
Also, whats the criteria/magnitude depth for pano maps objects?I was surprised to see omission of some bright objects readily visible through small scopes like HII region NGC 604 in M33 arms & on the contrary many GCs of M31 are plotted @ this scale of chart.

This is all great work - I would only make 2 suggestions - use PDF layering to allow one to hide the constellation borders and lines, and make the former dashed and VERY thin, almost invisible. More effective use could be made of gray scale.
I always wanted to do this and you've done outstanding work here!

TriAtlas is maybe the best printable atlas I've ever seen, thanks a lot for it. But I've realized that the B/C version download links don't work any longer . Is there any other mirror location? The printed charts I used to use had an accident last week and now I need to print new ones .

I could put the B/C version up on my website for you. However all I have is the USA version. I don't have the A4 sized version.
Let me know if you would want the USA version. If so, I can upload it and let it stay there for say 24 hours. It's not something I can have on my site for long periods of time. It's just too big. Even zipped it's about 220MB.

It is nearly uploaded everything, all editions. Be patient. I have a 30 Kb-60 Kb/s uploading speed (much slower than downloading speed). Just imagine the time I am needing. If you think that downloading is slow... imagine uploading.

Tharos,
The TriAtlas PDF files that you can currently download are the metric paper ones (A4 and A3 page size), which are valid for all European countries (links here). The missed (=deleted) files are the letter/tabloid editions, that were stored in a USA server. I have uploaded again all the files in all editions in another server (except the panoramic edition in tabloid paper size). I am waiting that Thierry gives me the URL to make them public; he said that it would be ready in a couple of days.

Yes - A4 page size links work, except the B/C set. It doesn't work to me... When I try to download something from B/C set (at the bottom of the list of sets), I'm redirected to the cgi.unk.edu server which returns "File not found". For example the link labeled "PDF 01: Charts 001 to 030" points to the URL "http://cgi.unk.edu/triatlas/VERSION_2_EUROPE/CHARTS_Z_MAIN/TriAtlas_M1_001-030.pdf".
Thanks a lot for your care about us!

Jose - I'll also add my thanks to the time and effort that you've put into your atlases. I do admit that I have Nortons, Uranometria 1 & 2, Sky Atlas 2000 and Sky 5 on the PC, but your charts are better than these offerings!
Good work, keep it up.

Thank you, Dave. There is still lots of details to enhance, but words like yours encourage us to follow working on them. There is no better satisfaction (we are not earning anything, this is an altruistic project) that feeling we are doing something useful for this hobby of all of us.
We are having problems with the tabloid charts (an error generating the PDF files), but I hope it will be fixed soon. All the other files are already uploaded. The 8x11 USA charts can be grabbed from here (and the rest can be found navigating in the site):
http://www.pixelsetphotons.com/index.php/USA/Voir-categorie.html
All editions: A, B, C, D (=intermediate B-C) and panoramic, in both metric and USA paper sizes are stored and can be downloaded, except the tabloid edition. The A4/A3 editions (european) are as always in my own site (A, B, C, D and panoramic editions):
