Great pic Steve. Really gives a perspective of the relative size difference as one moves up in aperture. Not really apparent from mfr's ads or other pics posted here! Gives one pause when aperture fever strikes!

Thanks Rob--but I guess the kudos should go to Mark at Teton who did all the work. I just paid the bill!
Not new--I picked up the scope on AM earlier this year. A part came loose during shipping and put a coupla' scratches on the tube which prompted the new paint job. Mark suggested adding the vents when he had the scope disassembled so in my mind it was a no brainer to give it a try. I've only had it out a couple of times but they do seem to help.

I love my MN-56, I doubt I will ever part with it. I did a side by side with a Televue 102 this spring and while there were subtle differences, the performance was VERY close. Sharpness on and off axis was pretty much identical. Saturn was the only planet to compare on, but other than a little bit of difference in color, (the Televue had a more orange color), the detail was pretty much identical. One very slight difference, stars were just a small bit brighter in the Televue, however the background sky was darker in the Mak-Newt. This made open clusters just a bit better in the Televue, but because of the contrast, galaxies were better in the Mak-Newt. Keep in mind these were VERY slight differences, if we didn't have the scopes side by side I don't think you would ever notice the difference. When you consider the price, and viewing position, (on an alt-az mount I much prefer the eyepiece at the top of the tube), I would rather have the MN-56 over a 4" refractor. If you want super wide fields and are super sensitive to field illumination you might notice a slight darkening around the edged of a low power wide field eyepiece. I never notice this unless I'm being very critical and looking for it, I don't feel it detracts from the view however. I'm not sure if this is accurate but I've heard it said that the MN-56 gives a 2 degree fully illuminated FOV. Here is a quote of an earlier post I made about my MN-56,
"On a night of very good seeing I really got to see what my MN-56 could do. I ran out of power with my 5mm TMB planetary and a 2x barlow giving 305x, 61x per inch, and if I had a shorter focal length eyepiece I'm sure I could have went higher. The views of the Moon and Saturn were just stunning, razor sharp with lots of contrast. I also looked at Mars, and even though it was about 3 arc seconds in size at that time, I could still detect a polar cap."
Hope that helps,
Josh

Hi Wade,
Nice shot! But from the looks of that scope collection, it appears that maybe it was the scopes who were having the party and that you might have been there only as an innocent bystander!

After that, I had about 15 kids out there looking through them for several hours. They had a great time.

It does quite easily with three inches of clearance between the back end of my 2" star diagonal and the base of the fork. Here is a shot of one of my fellow club members Dave Churilla (the guy in the funny hat) with his CPC 9.25 equipped with an aftermarket external focuser at the same event:

I have problems like that all the time with any scope equipped with a big star diagonal, so I just turn my cap around (or I don't wear it while observing). Clear skies to you.

I thought I would try a dual scope setup, to avoid lugging two mounts around all the time. Here is the CGEM with a C9.25 and ED80 mounted on an ADM side by side. Damping time is still under 2 seconds even though it is at the limit of the scope - 40 lbs of equipment and 40 lbs of counterweights. Kind of surprised at how easy it was to balance too.

I usually use the Sirius mount and C8 in the backyard because it is pretty fast to setup and takedown. So I can get a couple of hours observing done on a work night.
If I am really short on time I usually use the ED80 on the AT Voyager mount.
When I have a lot more time to view, like on a weekend or when I travel to the dark site, I always use the CGEM and either the C11 or C9.25. I will also set up the AT Voyager with the ED80 along side the CGEM to get some good wide field views. I decided to try out this new dual mount idea to see if could eliminate having to take the AT Voyager mount with me all the time. After trying it out last night on the moon and a few star clusters I was very impressed. It also solves the dew issue for me too. Having the scopes on the same mount means I don't need two dew controllers and two batteries, I just need to plug two wires in the dew controller on the CGEM.

Not the best picture, but this is a real cat with a real dog. The C11 is in Massachusetts now and the CGE is in Ohio. But the dog is still here, and now he's guarding a C9.25, and I'm still waiting for him to take a picture of it ..............

That's a Hyperstar lense and can be seen here. This will explain the whole thing.

Wish I could afford one.
Doesn't it cause a bigger obstruction?

It does cause a larger obstruction if you're using a DSLR or CCD that is larger than the Hyperstar itself which is no larger in diameter than the secodary mirror it replaces. There's several CCD cameras out there that are the same diameter of the HS so the obstruction is no larger.
Having said that, the bit of obstruction that happens doesn't have much of an affect on image quality. If you looked on the HS page, you would have seen some images taken with a Hyperstar. Not bad!

Hi
Here are some shots of my 10" LX200R (incredibly good optics too) that I posted a long while ago -- made some changes like adding wireless handbox (terrific and MUCH better), a Binoviewer, and different dewheater control but it still looks mostly like this:
My mainstay 'scope. Love it.

Here is my Fastar compatible C-14 on a CI700 mount, modified with full GOTO and adjustable legs. The stock leg tubes were cut down 6 inches and the adjustable leg sections (in the tubes) have an adjustment range of 20 inches.
