Ed,Thanks for your impressions of the Edge 8. The scope should arrive any minute and first light should be this coming Sunday. I'm very excited about this scope and can't wait to test it out.

Sedat- Thanks! I thought I saw a picture of your setup where you were using the stock finder as a guide scope or did I see wrong?
Bob-Thanks! Nope its all one part. I've had visual back for a number of years. I think it will work fine. If not I'll be ordering one of the Baader 2in visual backs.
Maya-Thanks!

Zack if possible you should try to use an SCT short adapter for your 2"diagonal. It will make the backfocus shorter as well as the ovwerall focal lenght. This will be important if you ever use a reducer. bc

Brendan, Thanks for the advice. I'll probably buy a shorter visual back soon. I do plan on imaging and buying a reducer when it becomes avaiable.

Thanks Pat!
I also went ahead and ordered a shorter 2in Visual back and a Bahtinov focus mask. So I should be all set. Just need to figure how I'm going to guide this setup.

OAG...trust me Zach. I used to use guide scopes, now only guidescopes when I am using hyperstar. With OAG, mirror flop won't kill your image and flexture is a thing of the past. I will grant you that guiding at 2000mm FL is not the easiest thing to do but I would defintely consider it.

I was considering an OAG. Which one do you use?
I see Orion has one and its a decent price and decent reviews, but I wonder how decent it really is.

That is correct Zac. I am using the stock finder as a guider when I shoot with the Hyperstar lens. It works perfectly well for this FL.
For other configurations, I am using Lacerta OAG, which is the same thickness of a T-Adaptor and has no flexure at all.
Now that I have sold my C11 Edge and purchased a C8 Edge like you, I will modify the finder of the C8 Edge also. C11 Edge was too heavy for me for setting up and tearing down everyday I will pick up my C8 Edge at NEAF in April. Loooong wait for me Glad you received yours very quickly!

I'm very interested in this since I have the same finder. It did not look to me like it would be useable. What modifications if any did you need to make? And is it reversible (can you put the finder back in the original configuration).

Zach, I have used the Orion OAG and actually, I like it alot for small chips that do not need field flattening or when a Focal Reducer is not needed. When I need a FF/FR, I use this OAG.

Sedat- Thanks for the info! I would also be interested in how you go your autoguider to work with the finder scope. I wonder if would still be a good guider even when shooting at 2000mm?
Pat- Thanks for the info. I wonder if the Orion OAG would work with a dslr as my imaging camera?

Hi Madratter,
I didn't want to hijack Zack's thread with my finder/guider mod but seeing that he also is interested in this solution I will give you a link where you can see more photos of this mod.
It is completely reversible as long as you use SSAG. You don't have to shorten the tube, etc. You just replace the rear lens body with the threaded holder I designed. It comes to focus with the part I produced. However, after some more thinking I have a better solution in mind, (a threaded connection to the camera and the finder) which will make this probably usable at f/7 as well. But for this, you will have to wait until I lay my hands on my new C8 Edge
Here is the link. Hope the pictures will be self explanatory.
Cheers

Zac. it wasn't, because the nose piece had some play and at 1876mm ( @f/6.7 with APCCDT67 reducer) it was showing this flexure which normally wasn't a problem at 560mm fl. This time, I will produce a threaded connector and it will be much better. However, there are things to be done to the finder holder as well. Once I start the mod, I will document every step and share it with you guys.
