A quick look shows that Astrometry.net does indeed have an open API: http://nova.astrometry.net/api_help

yes with carte du ciel, you need to select "carte du ciel" in maxpilote, but you need use with ASCOM (twin on same time)
I visited the page astrometry.net, but no good info. I will come back
You have a forum for maxpilote : http://fr.groups.yahoo.com/group/MaxPilote/

Hello Laurent,
Could you provide a little more detail as to how to configure ASCOM for Cartes du Ciel?
In Maxpilote, I have selected "Cartes du Ciel" and I also select ASCOM and for my Celestron CGE I select "Celestron driver" and configure it to the serial port.
Is that correct?
Is there any configuration I need to do in Cartes du Ciel itself?
Thank you very much for your help!
Clear skies, -Geoffrey

I have followed your program for a while and am very impressed at your progress. Well done!
Are you planning on adding rotator support at some stage?
thanks

I have no idea yet, sorry - I've only just ordered one (a Van Slyke that is controlled by Seletek).
The only info I can give is it's an ASCOM controlled device. The angle will be determined via the FOV through "The Sky".
Maybe others can comment with more certainty.
The reason for asking is that it seems to be the main thing missing at the moment for a truly robotic observatory.
regards
Paul

I've read that CCD Commander (similar to this thread's MaxPointe software but around $100) can use the Pinpoint LE program to automatically do a so-so job of plate solving.
However, one CCD Commander user claims that after he first used MaxPoint to improve the pointing accuracy of his scope, he then had excellent results with CCD Commander using just the Pinpoint LE program (included with MaximDL Pro for free) to do his plate solving.

MaxPoint is DLimited software, my soft is MaxPilote.
I try to manage Pinpoint LE direct, but i have message "Pinpoint LE Limited", so perhaps CCDcommander use another way.

Hello, I am trying to use the software and after installation the drop down list for the imager does not populate my copy of Maxin DL 5.22. Nor is there anything under Skymap?
Must be missing something....
EDIT: Worked after restarting....

Well, have a couple questions:
1. Do you have to use PhD with this system? PhD does not seem to work well with my guider (new SBIG STT-8300M with internal OAG). Can it work with the guider inside Maxim DL.
2. CdC did not come up when I started the program. I am using the ASCOM EQ5 Simulator.
Thanks

Merci, Laurent. Je parle francais aussi.
So, the sequence is to start CdC first.
Second, you connect to the scope via CdC.
Third MaxPointe. MaxPoint will then start Maxim DL and connect to CdC and through CdC to the scope when you "Start Session".
So far so good, in the simulator.
Seems like the next step is the Guider, but I cannot use PhD since it does not seem to want to play well with my camera (SBIG STT8300M-new). I have been guiding through Maxin DL OK.
I also do not seem to get the target coordinates loaded from CdC.
Je suis sur que votre logiciel est d'une qualite extradinaire, mais il me faudra un peu d'effort pour l'apprendre.
Amicalement
