I checked out the sky and I think the M81/M82 combo would be a very nice target. It's also a favorite of almost everyone. Now, with some of the instruments, this wide field of view might not be possible without a mosaic, and in that case I'd say just M81.....I'll leave this decision to the moderators.....of course, we could give extra credit to those that do a mosaic for the widefield..

Congratulations Bud, that is a great shot of M42 (I voted for it).
M81/M82 sounds like good choice (although I kindof like the lesser known objects).

taken from his courtyard on 1/2,3,5/06
nexstar 8 GPS, IDAS LPR filter, f/6.3 FR, SXV H9C
2 nights of 30 second subs, 1 night of 60 second subs
after throwing out subs ruined by passing clouds or bad tracking wound up with about 2 hours of 1 minute subs and 2 hours of 30 sec subs.

thanks folks
i'd especially like to thank gary, jim, paul and david for not entering their images
i think gary's would have had my vote
come on folks let's pony up for M81/82
that's a tough one for me as the camera won't clear my fork mount for the shot, so i'll have to resort to hyperstar with the camera in the front.
as for march i'm torn between the leo triplets
or ngc 2903, or NGC 3628 solo

well triples are too hard for me until i get my refractor up and running. i've wanted to do NGC 2903 since reading last year's small wonders: leo article http://www.cloudynights.com/item.php?item_id=497 but overall i think pale in comparison to M 81 which we're doing now.
NGC 3628 is so bizarre looking that i think it deserves a solo shot.
so its NGC 3628

NGC 6791 by Hoser (June 2006)
Taken: 6/16/2006 and 6/21/2006
Conditions: Transparency very poor, seeing about 5" (very poor night...but the first opportunity to image in weeks due to rain, so I coudn't resist.)
Equipment:
- TOA-150
- Paramount ME
- SBIG ST-2000XM, self-guided
- ST CFW-10, Astrodon LRGB filters
- FLI PDF
Exposures: (170 minutes so far)
- L = 9x2mins + 8x3mins (42mins)
- R = 10x2mins + 8x3mins (44mins)
- G = 9x2mins + 8x3mins (42mins)
- B = 9x2mins + 8x3mins (42mins)
Processing:
CCDStack:
- initial sub registration
- RGB combine, used to generate synthetic luminance (Ls)
- Ls mean combined with the natural L
- DDP
Registar:
- LsLRGB combine (yes...Registar did a better job at this step!)
PSCS2:
- gradient control
- noise control (NeatImage)
- slightly increased hue and saturation (Interestingly enough, I did NO increased saturation on the bright orange star in the upper left!)
- curves to bring up the mid-tones
Full-sized Image:
