M63 by Chuck Anstey (Mar 2007)
M63 shot over two nights March 11th and March 12th, 2007. Skies were below average transparency and straight at Atlanta, GA light dome so LP was high. The noise per sub-frame exposure was 45-50 ADU RMS so I figured I needed between 50 and 60 frames to drive the noise down to the correct level. I was able to simply let the AP1200 image unattended all night long so I got 68 frames.
Equipment: Telescope: Celestron C11 + Focal Reducer Mount : AP1200 Camera: SBIG ST-10XE + CFW8a + Astrodon Tru-Balance LRGB filters.
Conditions: Transparency : Below average Seeing : Between 2.6 and 2.1 FWHM (4.0 to 3.1 HFD) over the course of the night.
Exposures: L: 6 minutes x 66 frames (rejected two) R: 6 minutes (2x2) x 9 frames G: 6 minutes (2x2) x 9 frames B: 6 mintues (2x2) x 8 frames (rejected one)
I had an additional 6 RGB frames each but they did not improve the color image when I added them.
Processing: CCDSoft: Dark, Flat, Align CCDStack: Stack and create color frame CCDSharp: Lucy-Richardson deconvolution on Luminance Photoshop CS2 : Image processing and LRGB combine

Jan 2008 (IC2118)
This was taken on the night of January 7th from Chiefland Astronomy Village in Chiefland, Florida. Imaging at 29 degrees of latitude N was a real help on this image.
RGB 70-70-120m using 10m subs. TV-76 with 0.8x reducer, SBIG ST-2000 with CFW-8 and Astrodon filters, EM-200 mount. 5 sec guide exposures using the ST-2000 guide chip. Calibrated, aligned and sigma reject combined in Maxim. RGB channels merged and processed in PSCS.
