Thought some of you may find this interesting.
I wonder how Tom Cave crated these? Weighs in at about 1100 lbs crated. 5 days labor and an enjoyable project. With proper plans and organization it's only about a 3 maybe 4 day job. I hated doing it but I knew it was going to a great new owner who will bring it back to its original condition and that makes me happy. The mirror was placed in a removable wooden box as part of the mount crate and the (2) 50 lb counterweights are under that box. This design made the finished mount crate very well balanced. The focuser, rings and other hardware are in the other box in the same crate. The OTA sits alone in its own crate. When it arrives all the new owner has to do is remove the screws along the bottom of the wood enclosures - the enclosures come right off the base. If I were to do it over again, I would have done one or two things a little differently although nothing major. A little more lumber and labor than I had planned but its always that way. Here's the finished crates after much research, planning and contemplation before I was confident this baby would survive it's almost 2000 mile journey. I think it will.

Good job Albert.
I once crated up an old motorcycle like that for a trip from Mallorca (Spain) to Australia. It survived the trip unharmed.

I had hoped that you had purchased it from Albert so that I (and others) could have had the opportunity to view through it at Mt. Pinos.
More importantly, I was dreaming that if you had acquired it from Albert, you would rig it, together with your marvelous 12.5 Cave instrument, for "binoviewing."

I would have been the owner if that scope was local. Shipping such a beast is a deal killer. After years hunting for a Cave with the 2.5" mount here in FL i have about given up.
