My advice is to leave it just the way it is. If the paint chips bother you too much i would sell it before parting it out.. Parting a whole scope like that would be a sin. If you have the patience and talent to restore it than 100% go for it. You may even find you enjoy the restoration. So pull up a chair and stay awhile, the archives are filled with Unitron information. I am guessing it is a model 128 since you say it is a 60mm eq but i am no Unitron expert. These have been known to be very good performing scopes. Good luck i hope you stay and add some more pictures whatever you choose to do with it.

But my vote is to leave it and use it as is, the chips and patina paint give it character.

Hi Eagle,

I definitely agree with the others above to keep the entire scope together.

....but if you DO decide to piece it out, I would be very interested in purchasing the mount!

Before continuing... My gawd, man!!! don't let Preston talk you into selling just the mount!! ;oD

Keep this puppy intact and complete!

You won't have to search far OR wide to find price estimates for this. It could be worth quite a bit to a collector.

Hey Tim, I wasn't trying to talk him into selling me the mount - I only said "if.."

FYI: I just looked more closely at the picture of the mount. The declination lock rod and knob are there but looks like the mount is missing the declination adjustment rod and knob. Do others agree?

My guess for value would be in the $500.00 to $700.00 range depending on the condition and if all parts are there. Are all the rods / cable too mount there Your manual should show all parts that go on it. Also is main tube lense in good shape/no chip's/scratch's/mold If it is complete and nice shape you should have no ploblem selling. John

Good Morning Fellas.all i have been able to tale so far from your input of things to check, yes all the glass is good but needs cleaning, the overall scope needs cleaning.
the legs are all here, one leg screw missing, also missing a focus knob on one side i think.i only have the sleave to the manual so i`am not sure what to look for on the mount.i tried to find pictures of one here on CN but can`t really tell, the tube has a small dent/ding on it with some scratch`
the wood box veneir has delaminating issue top&bottom side ok.so over all it looks like it need some serrious restore. but again maybe with all the great input here it could be a nice scope one day i will continue to try and figure out how the whole mount thing should look/work i will also continue to look for new post`s
thanks again for all your feed back, very much appreciated.

Well, the Original Poster asked what is the effort to restore this so all of us are just trying to give him a straight forward assessment. His call if he wants to restore it or sell it.

after closer inspection i think this is a 114
with a 128 mount.
a true 128 has collimation ears on cell.
the focuser has 2 wheels and the box has tube mounted close to front edge so you can store legs in box.
unless of course its a early 50's model then it would look
different yet again.
here is a picture if scope in box.
if someone makes you a good offer on the whole thing
i would sell, but i would not think twice about selling mount, scope and eyepieces separate.

thanks for the picture and while i was looking at it.
you definitley have more controls on that one than mine,DUH.
i`am a little lost in there. but i will try, first i see were the flex cable attach`s but no cable,i see were there shold be some sort of set screw possibly on the very bottom base about 1/8"dia there are two rods with knobs on them one short, the other a bit longer the opposite side of the longer of the two looks like there may have been one there aswell almost positive cause there some threading on this piece then ends it is the same size as the rods if this is correct and looking at it over all ther are no other empty thread holes, any how i`am getting lost trying to understabnd it i feel like i`am back in grade school. any how kidding aside i will keep working at it. Chat with ya fellas in a while.

Hey fellas after further feed back from you and photos posted. it`s only obveius there are parts missing.
I`ve decided to put the scope on the sales market as parts or whole is the ? i just need to let my son inlaw know first. seeing he gave it to me, so till then i appoligize if i have to break this down in parts to sale. but if it helps some one else to complete their project then thats good. it should`nt be to long before i post. if i don`t sale this scope as a package deal,i think the eyepece`s may be sold. thanks again to all.

A small scope that gets used often is a better investment than a big scope that stays in the closet.

Unitrons, you spend more time looking at them than you do through them.

Hey Fellas it is nice to know that "some" of you have acuired these lovely scopes all intact and as for those of you that have been on the hunt to piece one together "cudos to you,i could also see the challenge to do so is part of the excitement/hobbie,during and after completion.haveing said that with all due respect please read/look at my previous post to understand my decision.finnaly i "qoute"
Hey fellas I`ve decided to sale this scope either intact or part out. I will be posting it in the classifieds. But before i do so! for those of you who have posted here pryor to this decision. will have first dibs we can communicate thru pm,followed up thru classifieds". well it seems that that know one jumped at the oprotunity to take it intacked I`am sure the reason is because this scope is not complete as i have posted. I do see however parting the scope out is allowing others to complete there projects, I`am the new guy on the block and don`t want to offend anyone here on CN`s i think it`s a great forum over all and seem to have found a cool place to hangout when the skies are closed for the night.enough said for now Chat with you soon
