Attn Unitron Nuts help settle a debate
      #3399170 - 10/19/09 11:00 PM

I swear i saw a Unitron/Polarex 60mm with collimatable ears somewhere at one time. A very reliable source here on CN's swears there is no such animal. Any owners out there with the collimatable ears on a 60mm Unitron/Polarex? Or am i going nuts?

Just today I saw that Brian aka Mr. Unitron, mentioned in the other Unitron thread that the OTAs that came with the Unitron Model 128 had them. So if that's the case then I just learned something new!

So I guess that changes what I stated to you in our PMs last night!

I have seen 60mm Unitron/Polarex with the "ears" and collimatable cell. They are late versions, early versions were not readily collimatable (no ears) Mark

Look in A'mart classifieds history, I just looked now and have seen images of Model 128 60mm Unitrons with ears. Mark

the ears generally came on the 128.
even the newer 114's did not have them
but there might have been exceptions
depending on the whims of unitron.
same with the 140's and 142's
unless you went back to the very early
unitron days when none had the ears
including the 4" unitrons.(1950's)
here is a 60mm 128 with ears

I was looking at a 60mm with ears on Seattle CL a few weeks ago. Alt-az mount model. $375.00, it was there for a long time, even longer than it takes my mind to process if I needed it or not. If I didn't already have a 7TE-5 I would have bought it. I love the 60mm scopes but have a tiny hobby account.
He sent me extra pictures and it had the obvious collimation ears. Wish I had bought it .

Robert

My 114 has no ears and my M 1oo has no ears. there both early 1950s. All my catalogs show 114s earless even the 1970s. I am sure there are some 128 eared OTAs in 114 boxes out there. Probably due to Scope vultures tearing the original kits down and selling the parts off!! LOL

Preston you are still a Unitron Guru. I wasn't trying to show you up,heck you remained anonymous in my post, i just wanted to make sure i wasn't loosing my mind. I thought i caught a glimpse of one a few months back and my memory is shot as it is. BTW you taught me that the 60mm and 62mm were one and the same. If i have Unitron questions i still go to you or Brian G. BUT that being said that beer you owe me..... I like Spaten Oktoberfest.

Brian G, I love to see any stray parts come back together as a working telescope. Heck I think that what this group is suposed to be about. The preservation of Classic Telescopes.. I have not got my hands on a 3" Unitron as of yet, maybe one day one will show up. I would really like to get my hands on an old 4" alt Az like your 3" to mount the M 100 on. Thats if I ever get a pinon made for it!! Its all restored new paint and all and waiting for somone with a vertical Lathe that can spin/cut a replacment pinion.
