Hey Tim,

Fantastic telescope.

The mount can use the TG-HD Drive. Call ART at TNR for a quote.

http://www.takahashiamerica.com/manuals/TG-SP%20II.pdf

The original drive was the HD-4 and then the HD-5. The motors on these are cool in that they match the original green color of the mount. I see about 4-5/year for sale at

http://www.arsnv.co.jp/cat/

The owner here is Mr. Minowa (although I have not ordered from him in quite some time due to the poor exchange rate). Your last option is to watch the Yahoo Japan auction pages.

I think I have a 2" adapter for the FC-76. Can you measure the threads and let me know?

Just checked CAT...there is a reducer for the FC-76....that has got to be pretty rare, a camera adapter, and a manual for the P2.

Steve:

I'll do that! Gotta get a bunch of projects done this morning, so it might be a couple hours before I can go measure those threads.

Wish I could read Japanese. How hard is it to conduct transactions?

Yep, it's a terrific scope, and I'd love to plunk a camera on it for some wide field AP.

-Tim.

Steve:

Speaking of camera adapters, I found a NOS camera bracket that came with the 2120 I sold you. It's never been out of the baggie, and since I have nothing with the OD of the Meade cell, if you want it for your friend's scope, it's yours.

Well, that reducer is going to be a hit for some wide field AP.

It's all wire transfer with CAT. No phone, just email. They give you their banking info and you go to your bank and wire the funds. Really easy. Shipping is very reasonable and it is international EMS. Stuff you order on Thursday sometimes arrives by special carrier on Sunday.

I will send you Mr. Minowa's email address.

Steve

If its not too much trouble, also send me the links to the specific items, since I've never seen them before and don't want to order the wrong things

One thing about this s ope that I do NOT like: the veneer on the top and bottom of the case is VERY dry and brittle. It looks good, but the very first time I took it out of my car, the end grain edges of the veneer snagged the carpet mats in the Honda and tore large strips off! The biggest is on the top and about a half inch wide and 8" or so long! I've kept it, but I doubt I can glue it back and make it purdy again. Might try though. The stain they used is an opaque one, so it's not like it was a decorative veneer. And that might make the repair easier to hide, if I don't just replace the veneer.

Hi Steve:

I got a reply from Art at TN, saying that he can order a new drive and other missing parts for me. I'm sure the price is astronomical, of course, but I'll see.

I couldn't make heads nor tails of the link you posted. Perhaps my browser isn't doing enough translating, because I can't read much of anything on that page. Maybe I need to try Internet Exploder from my windows virtual machine or something?

-Tim.

Sounds good. It should be interesting to see what the drive costs. As for the other web page, CAT, it works fine for me in Chrome, Safari, and IE. Even so, it seems the owner is only accepting postal money orders as payment from new customers. No more wire transfers. That makes it more difficult to buy from CAT in Japan.

I brought this scope and a slug of camera options with me to our dark sky site in Milford, Utah. Weather gods watched us drive the whole way. It's mid-40s today and scattered showers, changing to snow tonight and tomorrow!

It's clear tonight!! But it might not stay that way, so I've rigged up and am just waiting for it to get dark enough to go out and get things aligned and running.

Before leaving home, I managed to get all my various firewire cables together for my Pt Grey cameras, and then safely stashed them in a box or bag that I didn't bring with me!

So, it's strictly USB for me! Which isn't so bad, since that leaves my ST2000, my Canon T1i, and a Meade DSI Pro and DSI Pro III to play with. If all goes well, I'll just shoot and guide with the ST2000.

Figures! I found the cables this morning... ...in my luggage, right where I put them!

So I got a few images with the st2000, but I couldn't shoot longer than a minute because I couldn't get the auto guiding to talk to the mount for some reason. If its clear tonight, I might try again. If worse comes to worst, I could guide manually through the Tak with one of the FireWire cameras while shooting some wide field piggyback stuff with one of the other cameras.

Tim
