What's the Holy Grail for you Classic Forum types?

I popped in after seeing the "ALERT! Abandonded Scope Found" thread started. I would imagine it would be finding a Garden Scope. Am I right? I'm always hoping one turns up on "Antique Roadshow" or "American Pickers"...

Holy Grail? I have found a couple of MY holy grails. This one fell out of the sky & I will never top. The Pearl 228mm F10.6 Nasa Glass AP one of one Roland built in the 1980s. Thanks to all my friends here that helped me in its restoration and completion efforts.

hmmm Porter Garden scope or a treasure like the pearl? Neither are realistic finds here in Oz. I think it would have to be a large Fullerscopes or Broadhurst Clarkson long focus achromat. In the meantime I have my un-named victorian brass parlour telescope.

For me, it was/is my 4" Unitron. Something obtainable, but not all that easy to find a nice complete example of. I also like the older ones (circa 1960), and was lucky to find a 155 (w/2.4mm guidescope, sliding weight) about 300 miles from me. As an added bonus, my son lived about 60 miles from the scope so he was able to go with me to pick it up and then I stayed at his place overnight.

One of our members on CN (sorry, can't remember his name) had a Porter Garden Scope at our NEAF classic telescope exhibit. It was impressive, as art. He said its great to look at, but not a great telescope.

For me, a C22 but the chances of (1) finding one over here and (2) having the cash to but it if I did and (3) getting it past the CFO means this will stay a pipe dream.

For me, a Victorian reflector for our Victorian house... Like the one in Scotland. Except I doubt I could afford to get that here, assuming it were for sale and nobody there wanted it. (If any of these impressions are wrong, by all means let me know!)

I already have that, my Cave 12.5" Astrola. But a questar would fit into the overhead bin on a plane a lot easier I guess.

Holy Grail, eh? I am not much of a refractor dude, but I would still have to say a big Unitron or a Tasco 20TE (which I would rather have than a 4-inch Unitron Photo Equatorial). I guess it's a good thing I'm not in the position to afford or buy one. As Mr. Spock said, “After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing, after all, as wanting. It is not logical, but it is often true.”

I wouldn't agree with Mr. Spock, for me, the wanting to the acquiring period took 26 years from my first view through a Q7.
I am very pleased, except for the ensuing horrible weather we've experienced all year. Seems like a telescope here in the UK, gets about as much use as a surfboard in the desert.

A 4 inch Unitron Photo Equatorial on the Unitron pier with the falling weight drive and 3 inch guide scope, beneath an Ash Dome in my own home's rooftop observatory entered by a spiral staircase.
