I may be out to visit my daughter in Ridgewood NJ that week. If so I would be at NEAF at least one day and I could bring a late 50's Towa refractor. Sorry, my 3 Caves wouldn't fit in a carry-on case.
Sometimes my scopes take over the living room until my wife finally tells me to put my stuff away. The Towa is on the far right.

With much regret I won't be going to NEAF later this month. My daughter has talked me into taking her to the Bob Dylan concert that weekend and we got tickets in the 4th row back from the stage. Just about the same position where we saw Joan Baez a few years back. We won't have people like Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and Neil Young forever so we have to take advantage of the opportunity to see them when it comes up. I am sure we here in the Classics group can appreciate that. So I will be seeing another Classic this year instead.

I do not have that problem with my wife. I divorced her 12 years ago for that very same reason

I remember seeing "The Rolling Thunder Review" in 1975 or 76: Dylan, Baez, Joni Mitchell and Roger McGuinn. Each did solo sets then some group sets. the highlight was Dylan and Biaz accompanied by just their guitars coming out and doing a bunch of their old protest songs.
So no, you can't miss that show!

I feel the same way Peter. Dylan was and is a legend who has had tremendous influence on my generation (or at least the subculture there of, of which I have always been happily a part). Loved the Rolling Thunder Review, also Dylan touring with the Band; and where would the Byrds have been without Dylan. All I can say is I brought my girl up right. The last Dylan concert we went to was outdoors in a stadium and we were way off near center field. This time we will be only a few feet away!

My son works as a software designer for Google and his job involves getting the customer (user) to have a good experience with their software. When he buys tickets to concerts, it is always 1st -4th row. He has told me "You can buy cars, TV's, and all the toys you want, but where you need to spend your money is on great experiences. They stay with you all your life."
He's a good kid.
He bought my wife and I front row seats to Fleetwood mac in pittsburgh, as a Christmas gift. Weekend AFTER neaf.

Good question on organizer. I assumed Preston but haven't heard anything from him recently, even after emailing him specifically about NEAF. I'll check with NEAF to see if we're even registered! I know the ATS is registered.
NEAF is a fairly small show. It doesn't even fill the gym (double sized or more) they use. You can get through the entire show in a couple hours if you dilly-dally and chat like I do.
Food was metz-a-metz last year. Overpriced sandwiches, burgers and dogs. That said, I don't want to deal with making sandwiches in a hotel, nor in leaving for lunch. So I just grumble.

1. Look at the vendor list, make a your own copy, highlight the ones that are "must visit"
2. Dont ignore any vendor or booth: many pleasant surpises.
3. Solar Star Party (some classic scopes possible)
4. Sign up for door prizes
5. Any talks look interesting?
Food: eat a big breakfast, and get ready for a big dinner. Hit the Airmont Diner for both. For a country rube like me, it was like walking into a Goodfellas movie.

Ok, rule #1: don't eat anything on the show floor. Follow the passageway to the student deli. Inexpensive, grill, sandwiches, fresh coffee, salads, deserts and lots more. Also a place to sit.
Rule #2: (do not read any further if your squeamish about telling your wife) the ATM upstairs is capable of cleaning out your bank account! I ran short on cash and retrieved $660.00 to finish a scope payment with William optics. No telling how much it is willing to give you provided its in your account.
Rule#3: Sunday afternoon is worth staying around for. But see rule #2 on what can happen.
Preston has not organized the classic telescope booth this year. Lets make it a point to start early next year to do this.

Judging from reaction and reception to last years "Classics" booth I thought it was a shoo-in to become a regular and popular feature of NEAF.
But the times they are a changjn.

Thanks for the great advice, Len, Terra, Preston, Ray. Peter B. et. al....I can't wait to meet and greet you all. I'll give Clint a call, see If he can be pried loose for a day, ya never know...
I'll be going both days,Saturday to scout around, and meet and greet. Sunday, I'm bringin' Mrs. Bear who firmly holds the keys to Da Bear's "honey's money" astro account. That way I can bring back some "approved" NEAF treasure. Are there "swap and sell tables" set up for private sales?
