Hi I just picked up this interesting C8 orange scope with a nice amount of accessories and I have a few questions. With a lot of pictures.

And a nice 8X50 helical focusing finder that is missing eyepiece or diagonal and eyepiece. Looks like a 0.965 opening

What think goes into this eyepiece end. The visual back is definitely 0.965

You are missing a .965 diagonal and eyepiece. It's a nice finder. Vixen if I recall.

Came ice accessories including a quartz drive corrector, Silver top 36mm and 26mm and Ortho 7mm eyepiecs, JMI motototrak V with focuser and dec motor. See following pictures

Nice looking 'scope. Looks a great find. If it's a Super C8 then according to Uncle Rod's guide it was on sale between mid 1983 and mid 1985, from the serial number I would guess yours came from the 1985 end. There was a CN posting of of C8 with SN 818679 with a reported sale date of July 1985.

Thanks Michael. I hope you dont mind but I copied your picture and sent it to the original owner in hope that it might help him find the missing pieces. The gent rcvd this scope from a family mamber and sold it to me, apparently he received a lot of accessories and equipement. Im hoping it just might be mixed in with his stuff. bob

What type and focal length is the eyepiece?

I have a similar finder (University Optics 8x50). Upon mounting it to the same holes as the stock 6x30 finder, the 8x50 will not fit through the fork. Rotate it by accident too far in the wrong direction, and the finder's dew shied hits the fork. Is there a better way to mount it? Bob and I both could benefit.

Preston, I don't have the finder anymore and there was nothing written on the eyepiece, it was sold with the C8 a few years back.

I once had a .965 accessory kit that came with a very similar eyepiece though. An 18mm Kellner.

Preston, I just found another old photo of some .965 eyepieces that came with a Vixen Custom 80M. There was a K20mm that also looked very similar to the one in the orange 8x50 finder.

Bob, sorry to clutter up your thread with eyepiece photos.

Mike actually thanks for these pictures. Since I have a few classic telescopes and own that very Ke 20mm by Vixen. Going to try it with the finder scope and the 0.965 diagonal.

James how are the optics on yours? Of course I have the dreaded but obligatory RAIN since I picked it up, and no clearing till weekend. I read the manual, says these have certified optics with high transmission coatings. But I heard about a lot of horror stories about scopes purchased near Haley? Thanks Bob

Glass is great on mine. It was mint when I picked it up.

My only complaint is the tripod and that I can not fine tune on Azimuth.

Uncle Rod's Used SCT book helped me make my purchase.

Well finally after 5 days of clouds and or rain, a cold front went thru and cleared things up. Tonight was the first light for this fine classic. Even though a cold front went through, the image of Jupiter was spectacular. The collimation seems close to right on, it may need to be tweaked a bit, but I'll wait for a more steady sky to do that. Using my Ultima 12.5mm eyepiece, Jupiter appeared tack sharp, a beautiful crisp image with a well defined edge to the planet. There was a wealth of detail to behold, even using the supplied 7mm ortho, I was amazed that the image did not break down. Im stunned. Bob
