This is a continuation of the previous thread. I’m locking the older thread but will keep it on for a couple of days.
A few reminders :
1) do not post your own ads or the ads of your friends. This is considered sale promotion in the open forums and this is a violation of the CN TOS. Please post such ads in the S&S forum or the CNC.
2) do not post photos from ads unless you have the permission of the person who took the photo. If you must have some reference to the photo in the post, then post a link to the photo, not the photo itself.
3) do not post the entire ad text (or large blocks of it) without permission from the author.
4) try to concentrate on the item for sale and not the seller.
5) Buyer beware - there are some scams floating around, so do your homework before responding to any ad.
6) CN is in no way responsible for the content of these linked ads.
Best regards and clear skies.

It looks like a Polaris mount, but this pic is a bit small to tell for sure. An eyepiece and Barlow are included. Starting bid at $200, which is worth it*, reasonable shipping. These are nice little scopes!
*After the 'economic down turn' of 2008 I picked up two of these for $150 and under. Typically they've been selling in the $200-300 range in the past few years. So far they have not been afflicted in Unitronitis prices.

I believe the C4.5 seller just bought that local here for $75 on CL. I just missed the ad, he was in front of me. I have to let mine go since I now have the C6 with sled focuser. I had two of these a while back and sold one for $222 to a happy local buyer. I'll probably repeat that price since it's easy to type. I stink at the number line on the keyboard.

Someone stated that Brandon made other scopes that did not have the Christen triplet. Maybe someone else here has information on this. Either way Phil has done another great job of stirring things up with that listing. I am sure some of you here have dealt with him. At one time he was morning star optics.

I agree, asking price seems too high. Have noticed these types of high prices on instruments being met lately, however. If classic telescopes turn out to be the next big thing (relatively speaking), it could put these instruments out of reach for many of us.

Its hard to tell but its an RV-6.
The seller got it in a trade and just wanted to sell it.
The parts are marked with moving company item numbers so I suspect the legs were mis-placed.
I can tell it was well loved because its really in pretty nice condition.

The Zeiss with the motorized mount is not far off the going price for a Telementor with a motorized mount. Plus the extra mount that is included. The Zeiss mount operates from 220 volts 50 cycles and most likely the reason for the use of the other mount. The finder on that Zeiss is worth at least $400 by itself. I would buy it, but I just have too much on my plate right now. I have seen the motorzied mount for for $1200 by itself. So you can judge from there.

Perhaps the $89.99 shipping charge is a factor.
Now back on topic:
Appears to be an Edmund Scientific 3" f/6, w/image inverter and Bowl of Night (which is a very nice acrylic planisphere):
Cleveland, Ohio CL
This would be a wonderful combo for a young person...

The focuser casting is identical to an older Royal Astro S-5 (Tasco 7T). The legs look silver, which would not be quite correct (at least from my experience). I've been wondering about this scope for a while. It could be a very good one and worth checking out more closely.

Hi Charlie, I believe the legs are a light ash color which appears to match the wooden case for the scope. Believe they maybe very close to the color of your legs on your Astro Optical S5.
One other thing I noticed when comparing the focuser housing to the older Tasco or Royal scopes of the same vintage is that this Daylite model does not appear to have the two focuser tube adjustment set screw above and below the name tag.
I seem to recall when the seller originally listed the scope, it was for pickup only....thus the main reason it never sold. Not sure why the current shipping price is so high. I live 5 hours away and thought about picking it up, but have too many current irons in the fire

That Zeiss sure is a temptation isn't it. Doesn't matter for me I just bought this beauty. Yes it needs work but that's the fun part:
The feet on that pedestal look very much like a Christmas tree stand my family had in the 1950's! Scary.

It's a Christmas tree stand all right!
I wanted to take a picture for my records and the stand was handy.
Its too bad the legs are missing but I think that made it very undesirable to the other potential buyers.
It sat and sat and sat, and the price went from $175 to $150 and finally to $125. At that price I gave in and bought it.

I wonder how the Meade would fare in a shootout with a Questar?

An extra 1/2" of aperture but it is probably offset by a larger central obstruction. I've always passed on the 4" Meade SCTs I've come across but none have had that LX drive. I wonder how it well it works? Too bad it wasn't a BIN with those EPs

I have one of these. Not as nicked up as the one for sale, either. But not the cool collection of TVs, either!
Mine is decent optically. Dave Groski rebuilt the drive on mine, which had fried some components due to a somewhat subspiffy original design.
Works great now, though!

I have a 2045D, the model that supplanted the 2045 LX3, and it is optically almost perfect. Wasn't like that when I took delivery, however; radial and rotary alignment of the secondary mirror and its holder is critical on these instruments, and will often greatly reward a bit of patient fussing-over.
Incidentally, I believe that many, if not most, of the 2045's were of Japanese manufacture.

ALL of the Meade 4" SCTs and ALL of the early 2080s were made in Japan by Mizar. Greju has one labeled Mizar by Meade, in fact. I didn't know this when I worked for Meade, though I did know that they did import the 4" from Japan. When I left Meade the first time in fall 1979, the 4 and 8" SCT prototypes were being worked out. There was nowhere at the Costa Mesa facility to make them until sometime before I came back to work at the Irvine facility in fall 1981, when they had their own optical shop and were machining parts for the 2080 and 2110. The 4" SCTs continued to be imported, however.

I agree, it does appear to be a C8. The photo of the assembled fork mount is illustrative... compare the width of the arms to the drive base.

It's an 11. The drivebase has the black plastic protrusion where the Celestron name and serial number is located, and the gold anodized corrector cover is the giveaway...

I agree, it does appear to be a C8. The photo of the assembled fork mount is illustrative... compare the width of the arms to the drive base.

Edmund Scientific 4-1/4" Palomar Jr. reflector
Wish it was near me in NJ, as I'm looking for one in a vain attempt to recapture my lost youth...
Someone should go get this Palomar Jr. Edmund knew what they were doing making a spherical f10 very smart easy to make perfect. A very potent tool for planetary and moon study.

Didn't a 4" Wray just like that recently sell on some auction site or another?!?! I agree: cool but not $5,800 cool. But everyone has their own opinion. BTW: what's that about Lowell Obs. appraising a scope?? Who there is qualified and willing to do so???

That must be the orientation mark. That side of the mirror is always supposed to be oriented towards the northwest.

It should be 90 inches but I've got to measure it.
Yes its very nice looking but it does have a few clamchips.
It seems odd to be what appears to be a ancient mirror but so thin, I don't know how long thin mirrors have been around but I thought it was only since the 60's with John Dobson and porthole glass.
It has me completely baffled because it looks like a manufactured mirror blank, the way its edged.
A thought I heard glass can turn blue from the mineral impurities, possibly it could be a porthole I don't know.
I just measured 92.5" which makes it a 15"f6.2 holy swiss on rye batman. I wish I had a way to test it. At least I think its a telescope mirror and not a Searchlight reflector!

Anyone remember Star Instruments, out in Irvine, California? I recall them from the late 1970's. Here's what appears to be one of their 6" f/4 OTA's on a late 70's/early 80's Edmund Scientific medium-duty GEM:
Boston, MA CL
I sure do. That was another nitmare story. Back in Oct of 78 at age 15 i ordered a 6" RFT from them, tooks many weeks to get it, and when i did get it, the 2ndary and holder worked loose from the spider and chipped the 2ndary and main mirror. I had to send it back for another one. The main mirror was held in place by a center bolt.

Paul Jones from Star Instruments made a 26" f/4.45 mirror for me back in 1985. The mirror was 1.5" thick and it also had a center hole that was used to mount the mirror. It made a great "light bucket", but ... not surprisingly ... it fell a little short at high powers. The pyrex mirror blank was purchased as "surplus" from Kodak for $200 and Paul Jones ground and figured the mirror for $2000. All told, $2200 for a 26" mirror was a great bargain ... even in 1985!

My guess would be that it's plate glass from the 80s. Who put center rings on their mirrors before then?

I guess when I think about it the 80's were 30 years ago. It could look very old and be from the 80's. Also the more I think about the thickness I'm getting worried that it may not have a very good figure. I don't know how anyone could grind and figure such a thin piece of glass without it moving and flexing from the pressure of the tools. Well, I need to test it and find out. I think I'll build a "reflector on a stick" and see.

When I ground my 6 inch mirror (from an Edmund Sci. kit) back in the mid 60s for a school science project, the tool was green plate glass, and as I remember around 5/8 inch thick, but the blank was clear Pyrex and about 1 and 1/4 inch thick- for only a 6 inch dia. mind you.

For certain it will need a floatation cell to ensure that the mirror does not warp under its own weight.
For testing, try pointing it straight up with the mirror resting on bubble wrap.

I ground a 10" mirror from an Edmund kit and they sent two full sized pyrex blanks saying "pick one for the tool". Those were both thick clear pyrex. Wish I had kept up with that tool, but never thought it was anything special at the time.
Common Soda-lime glass is clear when thin and gets greenish when thick as in Coca cola bottles etc. Blueish glass usually has some cobalt in it, going to deep blue if potash is also in it. Dont think portholes were intentionally blue but can't swear to it. maybe they just got a good deal on a lot of surplus colored structural plate glass used on buildings and cut it into mirror blanks.

The same scam for the subject scope popped up again on e-bay, which I again reported along with multiple high priced guitars listed by the seller. I was puzzled that some of the sellers other listings seemed legit, and the fake auctions didn't have the same seller as when last listed.
However, for the first time the seller replied to my feedback on the fake items. They replied that their ebay account had been hacked maliciously by a person using the auctions to rip people off, that the current auctions in their ebay account were fake and did not really exist. Explains a lot.

Buy it now at $890 ?? I'd like to have one if only because of the great focuser! The focuser reminds me of Captain Nemo.

On the other hand, I'm thinking of putting my CN moniker, "Littlegreenman" up for sale. Oops! Guess I can't say that on this forum . I know! I'll auction it off on Astromart!

THANK YOU! to whom ever stepped up! This should be a classic to be proud of forever. 76 X 1400 awesome. The mount is the same as supplied with the 80 X 910 and the 90 X 1400 Royal Astro scopes. Way more than adequate for the 80 X 910, but kinda jiggly for the 90 X 1400. I'm guessing just right for this scope!
I was just returning to hit the BIN and it was gone. I hope it was someone here. I'd love to vicariously enjoy first light. Good bidding!

I wish. I sorta love and sorta hate the sweaty buyer's remorse oh what have I done now thing but somebody else just got a lot of classic rarity tonight. That is a beautiful scope at what I would consider an easy price to live with. Nice!

Betcha have submarine too... when I was 13 went with my best friend to visit his uncle. He had one of those. He also had a 5 inch Unicorn in a housetop roll off... Had a plane... Didn't have a cool car. I really liked that scope with the big wheel. He had it in his library. Didn't get to look through the Unitron, it was too cloudy. Did get a ride in the plane.

That Sears 6345 90 mm eq. has dropped from 1500 to 1200 and its right here on CN. Seems like a more inline price now. Somebody in the group gonna get it? (Not me, I'm full up right now.)

I'm full up. I'm just getting a few EP's right now. My funds and time are going to get my Lotus ready for a track day. Great one for a Sears collection! Cmon' You sears scope people! Make an Offer.
I'd rather a nice Cave if I was getting anything right now.

Very cool Allan. When I was a kid my friend (actually his grandpa who more,or less gave them to him) had a pair of vintage 1950s 15x70 Zeiss binoculars and a heave photo tripod to mount them on. They were amazing! And they seemed enormous at the time.

I started to make a post last night and then deleted it. Let me just state this...
After the 6345 had just 3 views, I wrote the seller and said I would buy it for the $1500 asking price and pick it up. I heard nothing. Then, I saw more pictures added and sent him another email offering to buy it for $1500 and pick it up. No response. Now, I wrote and said I would buy it for $1200 and pick it up. We shall see. Somebody here has got to get this. It's been sitting for a week and its only 60 bucks! Only 2 hrs left! I've been so tempted over the past few days but I need another 60mm scope like I need a hole in the head! This looks to be a good deal for the money.

Finally heard from Leonard on his 6345. Wants to know if I still want to buy it at $1500. LOL! I told him he probably should have used real information when he signed up so he would have received my offers.

Yup, same Leonard, same Sears scope, (at least same pictures). It's been removed from the CN classifieds where it was listed for 1200 and listed at the same price on eBay!? Go figure? Guess he'd rather give some of the 1200 to eBay than keep it all? Weird that he wouldn't sell it to a member on here who made a solid offer for 1500? Many questions???

Thanks Starman876 and Joe, it really is a unique design. Here is another unique feature and the basis for the compact design: a 4.5" f/10.5 "Reflector" in wood case.
Here's the link to the original thread on this scope if your interested.

That is really nice. Terra, you need to get an 8" f6-f8 with a Zambuto quality mirror.. THEN you will like reflectors. You can use a Unitron for a finder Most larger reflectors have mediocre mechanicals, they are hard to mount. That's why I roll my own. My 6" F8 is every bit as good as my D&G 5". Better in some respects. That said, I still have a lot of refractors.

actually I like taking a scope out and using it. I do not want to spend time aligning it out in the cold. There are only a few mirrored scopes I have liked. They did not need alignment. My SCT's I only use rarely because I just like to set up and use. That is also why I do not use the large refractors very often. I do not have an observetory so I need to carry mine out and use them. Large cats and large newts are problamatic because of the tube currents in cold weather. why am I rambling on here

Marc, been there... done that. I built my own 6 inch reflector and it was very well figured, nice parabola that tested quite well. Still, it would get out of collimation and I hated to fritz with that. It wasn't to bad because it had a very good mirror mount and a nice spider for an 1/8 wave diagonal. Still, there was more to it than my refractors. I do have a very nice Russian Mak, that I do like because it is so refractor-like; has a nice long threaded on metal dew shield, threaded metal cap, beautifully built; still it takes a little cooldown time and I am impatient so it doesn't get used a lot. I do love it tho and would never get rid of it. I have had a couple of other maks and sct and they are gone by the wayside; and I never looked back. I even gave one away to get rid of it.
For me, mirrors are something I would rather use to look at myself with, rather than to look thru myself.
Johann, I agree with everything you say. My viewing time is often limited and I would rather use it to view that to fritz. I too have no observatory so things need to be carried outside onto my deck. Small scopes and go out in one trip, larger ones require two to three. My 4 and five inch refractors are as big as it gets. I don't want to sprain something on me or break something on them. The six inch scope only gets used at dark sky sites and it is as large as I can handle, hoisting it up onto the mount.
I don't want to fight tube currents, cooldown times, collimation errors, and huge unwieldy tubes and mounts.
Besides, I just enjoy the look and feel of a refractor and I love how easily they work on either a good eq. or alt-az mount.

That is why I love high end refractor optics. You look through them and just love it. Want more power, seeing permitting, and you just use a stronger eyepiece. You want to admire the difraction patterns you can without anything in the way. A high end TMB is still on the buckett list. The 6" F8 AP is nice, but the optics are nothing compared to the latest ED triplet scopes that come out of Russia or from AP. The older long focus achromats are very nice, but once again if you want image scale you need at least 4" or more and a substantial mount to hold them steady. That is what I like about the Telementor or the Zeiss APQ. If you have the cash jump straight to the Zeiss APQ and skip over the Zeiss AS100. There is one TMB 4" scope that I have heard will outperform the Zeiss APQ100. I would really love to try both scopes at the same time. These are scopes that require very little cool down time and perform like no other. The perfect grab and go scope. But as usual. paradise has its price

Reflectors do have some issue for sure. My 6" F8 doesn't go out of collimation, but it is a machined cell wot push pull screws. They are more apt to tube currents and cool down. You really do get to see a lot of detail in Jupiter's cloud belts. Faint fuzzies are not so faint fuzzies.. But they do need more cool down and set up. Tube currents are an issue, but that can be dealt with. Yes they are more fiddly. Terra, I like the reflection comment.. Heard that one once before. Very funny. SCT's are a nightmare to cool down. BIG nightmare for an 11". Makes Reflector cool down child's play. Needless to say, my C11 only goes out once every month or so. The mount for my 6" F8 lives outside, so I just take the tube out and put it on the mount. Small refractors are easy to use. That is for sure.

There is always that question of quality optics. Modern lens grinding and polishing methods have really got to state of the art. My question is??? Are the optics of classic telescopes, refractor or reflector, as good, better or the equal of todays modern optics. Guess we can throw in hand crafted optics in this mix

WOW Scott!! Beautiful scope! Back in 1976 I saw this same type of scope on the TV series Space:1999 and have wondered about those extension tubes ever since. It seemed hard to believe that someone would place a mirror extended on shafts like that. Does it hold colimation well? In the series, the scope belonged to Professor Victor Bergman. He uses it in an episode called "Another Time, Another Place". I will have to look at that episode to see if the mirror cover is removed when he uses it. Enjoy that scope! Cliff

That is my favorite episode of year 1 SPACE1999. You will also see it on a few year 2 episodes, they use it as a laser.

You must mean the TMB 100/800. You will have your chance to compare these two scopes when we have the Central MA refractor party. See the Refractor Forum thread on this.

The shot of the tube in the case looks bent because the dew cap is on at an angle. Cover up the dew cap with your finger and the tube looks straight. Or at least to me it does.

I've heard good things about the AS 100 lens but color is noted and somewhat expected as I believe it is considered to be a super-achro or something like that. Was that why you were disappointed?

The views were not as good as I was hoping. Views were soft and not sharp like I expected. Maybe I had a bad lens. Hard to believe from Zeiss. I had a few other triplets at the time and they were much sharper. Maybe not a fair comparison, but considering the AS100 cost me more I felt that if I had a scope that cost less outperforming the AS100 that it was not worth keeping.

Heads up everyone!
The Ebay scams involving high end gear offered at a (relatively) cheap price have moved up in sophistication. The scammers are now making use of Java in their Ebay ad pages to redirect your browser from the genuine ad page to a similar looking page on a phishing site, which if you then click on 'report item' or other links seeks to obtain your login details. See for example the discussion on the Audio Karma forum.
So, in the words of Sergeant Esterhaus "Let's be careful out there!"

Thanks Masvingo, and Yikes! There is another problem: as explained in the Audio Karma forum this scam uses a vulnerability in Java. They recommend to turn Java off, especially in you are running Mac OSx, which I am. But Java is needed on ebay for things like navigating around...
I guess maybe get two eBay accounts: one to surf and it doesn't matter if it gets hacked, and one to us the info to buy and/or sell with. I've also noticed ebay is slower to delete the fake ads recently; that could be part of eBay's counter offensive.

I found a way to e-mail e-bay about this wednesday evening and the seller was removed. Last night I waded through the process to call e-bay directly to report this again when a "new" seller posted the items again. The auctions are removed again, but I expect them to reappear.
Do you think they obtain login details by attemps to report the items or by selecting "confirm" on the subsequent window?

Chas, That episode is one of my favorites as well. The music is emotionally moving as well compliments of Barry Gray. I believe that "Another Time, Another Place" was the last full length episode composition that he did. The scope in that episode had black trim instead of green, ditto for the mount and the tripod legs were aluminum. The eyepiece turret, focuser and the oval tag on the focuser look the same. There are a few publicity stills that show the scope within the Earth encampment. When the second season debued, I was devastated by all of the changes made to the show. After a few episodes, I began to drift away. I will go through the episodes again to see where it shows up. Cliff

Hey, it just occurred to me that the 60mm Unitron scope and mount that was supposedly for sale here a couple of days ago may have been bogus from the outset. Here are ten reasons that I have come up with to conclude that the ad may well have been a farce.
Consider:
(1) the prices were ridiculously low, even the one for the ota with the cracked lens considering that the solar projection kit, 4 Unitron eyepieces and the deluxe cell were included, not to mention a very nice cabinet.
(2) the scope looked so good! How could someone have kept it in such good condition and broken the objective.
(3) a photo of the broken objective was never shown.
(4) the eq mount was listed at 1/3 to 1/4 of its value.
(5) the listings were made in the middle of the night, good time for pranksters assuming it was listed here in the USA and the add gave every indication that it was.
(6) several of us emailed him right away and got no reply. I for one emailed him around 8 or 9 AM withing 4 or 5 hrs of the listing- no reply.
(7) the seller registered here the day of the sale (march 19).
(8) no one on here bought the stuff.
(9) this occurred the same week that we have had several debates about newbies, drive-bys, price gouging, rising prices, etc.
AND
(10) my daddy always said "if its too good to be true, it probably isn't."
Just my thoughts on the matter.

It is quite possible that the eekbay scammers of recent note are aware of the CN actions against them (posted here), and at least aware of the discussion about them (posted here). And, they might have posted here.

No, i don't think so Terra : I posted an offer for the EQ mount close to what he wanted (which I found reasonable, according to a European price level). And besides that, telling him he needed to sell the base of the mount with the EQ head (and not the tripod...).
I received a polite answer after 2 days, telling me he'd been busy working, was now considering some other offers in the queue, and would return to me if the mount was available after that.

Thank you Allan for the update. I trust your judgement. Its just that we have had such weird stuff of late with regard to pricing and all that I guess I myself have become a bit paranoid.
Thanks again,

It was relisted. Read that listing, which is now closed because it is "no longer available" and you will get an idea of what happened.

That looks like a 6" Dynascope OTA on an RV-6 mount. Dang! I'd drop a C note in a heartbeat if it was local.

Hey, it just occurred to me that the 60mm Unitron scope and mount that was supposedly for sale here a couple of days ago may have been bogus from the outset. Here are ten reasons that I have come up with to conclude that the ad may well have been a farce.
Consider: (1) the prices were ridiculously low, even the one for the ota with the cracked lens considering that the solar projection kit, 4 Unitron eyepieces and the deluxe cell were included, not to mention a very nice cabinet. AND (10) my daddy always said "if its too good to be true, it probably isn't."
Just my thoughts on the matter.
Just happen to be on CN classifieds when the seller posted that listing in the early AM. I thought for sure I got lucky and nailed this one when I responded while the listing had only 4 hits .
The seller responded the following day apologetically informing me it had been sold. He told me another CNer beat me to it by minutes . So, I guess it seems legit. I guess we won't know for sure until someone reveals themselves .

Woo Hoo,
Llano is where my ranch is! Little bitty town of about 3,000. Big ranch country, home of the largest private hardware store in the whole state of Texas. That is where I found my original complete blue tube DS-16 hernia maker. I made a vacation trip down to pick up the 16.
I don't doubt the ad, and I'll contact the seller. My brother lives on the ranch and he could get it but I have absolutely no need for this one. If any one is intested in getting it on hold, I can swing the deal (your money) and keep it stored. I'll post any info from the seller.
EDIT: talked to the seller. Charles will put everything for the telescope in one place at his store in Llano and talk to me at 10:00 tomorrow morning. Here is the post of just some of the other stuff, and there is more that he didn't list.
http://austin.craigslist.org/spo/3694730910.html
Charles doesn't know squat about any of it. He don't know diddly. He opens his second hand store a couple of times a week, he has had this contraption for about 2 years. Ironically, he got it here in Colorado and took it to Texas.
It all belonged to the father of a family friend, the father passed away about 4 or so years ago and no one in the family had any interest in any of it. The father apparently did some photography with it, and how he did it with that mount contraption I have no idea.
I find it interesting how astronomy can come out of the woodwork sometimes in strange ways. Charles and I know some of the same people and it was a rather heartfelt conversation even though I was just there for 2 weeks last Dec. The Bluebonnets are up and they are pretty things. My brother is going to swing by his store tomorrow and take a visual of the scope contraption crude looking thingy.

One after the next. My intention was to pick up this scope and the Sears 6345 when I am in Sacramento in 2 weeks. I don't think I will have either.
For the AP, the seller offered me a chance to purchase it after his original winner backed out for personal reasons. Not too many folks back out of a $3250 6" AP on a rare Losmandy GM-100 mount....hmmmm. So, I offered more than the auction, $3750. He wrote back and said he wanted $5,000 but that he was going to put it up on Astromart and Ebay first. So, he did. I bid $4,000 and then the auction was removed. I suspect if he put it on Astromart, it got removed quickly. Now, here it is on CN.

Wow, this 8" looks elegant. I can't tell you how many evenings I spent under the covers late at night drooling over the Criterion catalogue. That scope was like the ultimate! Well, since Steve linked it, I'll fess up. The three refractors are mine. I'm not losing my mind, just changing the direction of my observing interests. The 2.4" and 3" refractors, which were seldom broken out for observing in favor of the larger telescopes that I have, have now been relegated to non-use by my recent acquisition of a Q3.5 (vintage, or course). Like the dozen plus antique military rifles I've sold off over the last year that never got used, as well as the garden scale train collection, these telescopes need to go to a home where they will not be packed away in perpetuity along side the bathtowels and spare linens.

You have to understand this is pretty kicked back small town in big Texas ranch country. The owner is 63 and a bit difficult even getting around some focuser information with the scope in front of him. I think it's a helical. It's all more like "Here it is, come and look at it". The bino is interesting. Does anybody know anything about the Tuthill bino? I'll be down there in about a month, for a Spring visit. I'm interested is some accessories, not the scope particularly, know nothing of the finder, the mirror has been face up uncovered for at last the last 3 years and the owner says its pretty dirty and he has no concept of coating condition. I could transport from Llano to Denver if you're along the way. The listings may disappear as he'd just as soon not bother with it till I get there and look at it all. Maybe, maybe not. I told him to leave it all up, and I'd relay any info I get. He didn't care, his call, even stating he understands I might look at it and not want anything. It'll just be easier that way. You gotta understand, this is small town in.....
This is as far as I can get to relay.

I'm not sending the seller a note, but he has a bit of disclosure issue with the substantial substitution of a vintage Celestron fork/drive assembly. The Celestron looks to be late orange tube to early black tube. I guess it doesn't matter since he says the drive doesn't work?!?!
I have the ol' precurser Criterion Dynamax 8. Cute little blue bunny hopper when sitting on a table. Nothing frustrating about it, even though the optics AND mechanics have issues. It does work. It is what it is and I don't let it bother me. It's vintage, it's classic because I think it is, and girls of all ages at public star parties find it cute, it has great cosmetics and cool aesthetics. I'll slowly mess with it when it gets it's turn, and it will get better. Lord knows I have other scopes for other aspects of viewing so no frustrations at all.

The villian hacks onto existing sellers auctions to list over five pages of items. One of the other items is a Tak FS 102 sold by the tile man. I let the seller know she was hacked and recieved a thank you.

It works like an OAG: there's a little mirror you can flip into the tube that picks off some of the light cone.

I have a TRAQ Model 545 with the same 10X finder. It's not very convenient to use since you don't sight along the tube, it is not always ready to use without flipping the mirror back and forth which also introduces vibration. It also must be dead center with the main objective though alignment is adjustable with 3 small screws. I got it for a grandson, but gave him Selsi with a 5x24 finder which is easier for a child to use. Still, it is made by TOWA and views are nice. I'd probably pick it up (maybe offer $25) if it were local only because I no longer know when to stop adding to my collection.

This just doesn't sound right to me, but did AP ever sell a Meade mount with a 6" scope as this CL ad suggests?

Trippy! I've never seen one like that before. Can't tell, but it does look like a decent job. I think it's overpriced, though.

4" Edmund outside of Tucson: http://tucson.craigslist.org/for/3702707738.html
I was just out there this morning buying a 1.5" Cave mount with an ATM 6" OTA (no mirror) and lots of goodies. I saw the Edmund scope but I didn't ask if it was for sale. The ad came up later in the morning. The Edmund was in reasonably good shape. It's a 40 mile drive from my house, not going for it.

I passed up a $100 RV-6 this week that was only a few miles from me, but I'd have jumped on that Edmund for $40, regardless of the looks my wife would've given me.
Tucson isn't anywhere near Trenton, is it?
