Have you converted the yen to dollars in that auction.

It is interesting

Yes, the Yen is almost exactly the US dollar value in cents. I'm guessing this might go for a new record for a small Zeiss.

Large Meade mirror new [Re: Ruimteman]

Nice Meade package but the typo on the mirror size has me perplexed as to how they achieved to type that number pattern.

That would be about right for the focal length of a 10" Meade. Maybe they saw that written on the edge.

That very well could explain it. Looks small for a 10" mirror though

I had a 10 inch Meade mirror that had 44.7 written on the back of it, which would make it a f/4.5 spec mirror, which of course it was.

I suspect that if this one has 47.9 then that would be a 8 inch f/6, not the 10 inch.

Looking more closely at this setup made me realize it is not a scope from the early 50's or 60's. No unibalance and it must be a typo that the guidescope is a 60X800 unless it is not a Untron guidescope.

The 60X800 should be a typo as the 50's and 60's Unitron scopes were 60X700. This as mounted on this Unitron 5" Field Tripod version #M510.

According to the Company7 website, they estimate that OTI sold 645 4" inch models.

Can you tell us the OTI site you are quoting?
Thanks,
Jim

Jim, i said Company7 site , OTI " Optical Techniques, Inc." was the manufacturer.
But here`s the site that references the number of Quantum 4`s that were produces, by their best estimate.
Its under: Sales and Decline

Possible Questar for $325 in Greenville, SC new [Re: Rich (RLTYS)]
      #5849387 - 05/09/13 07:50 AM

Possible Questar for.....$325!?!?
Someone needs to buy this! Not sure of the validity of the add, seems legit. Pictures are small, so it's hard to tell for sure what it is. It's located in Greeneville, SC somewhere. Hope someone can jump on this amazing deal.

Not a Questar. If anything an OTI Quantum. Very difficult to tell condition and/or model from those pictures though.

I'm not familiar with those. Still some what of a noob to astronomy and gear. Is that a decent quality vintage scope?

Quantums were made by a group of ex-Questar employees in the late 70s and into the late 80s I believe. See here: http://www.company7.com/library/quant6.html
There were some very good optical samples. Mechanically they were also good. But not Questars.

Somebody here needs to get this. It's a nice scope and only 50 bucks. I would but I don't need another one.

Terra, That is a good deal for $50. I really don't need another either. Just found a box with an old 80mm F11 and newer 80mm F6 lenes. Vague memories. Note on the F11. Tests perfect, keep. Think it came from an early Meade blue 80mm.
