It's in Cherry Hill. Just down the road from Barrington. (My wife is from Woodbury)

Jersey in the house...

Thanks for the location... if it was equipped with a clock drive, I'd probably have it by now.

Poster gave the location as 08034. I thought all the 6" came with a clock drive. It was an option?

Yup, they came both with and without the drive... I believe that the drive was about $50 extra or so, in that era.

Hi Fred,

Yep, that Ed 6" looks to be in good condition. The setting circles appear to be the thicker plastic version and no clock drive. What is there, including the original finder looks nice. Both counterweights, both pipe bored, no pipe which is a simple hardware fitting.
If the optics are good then the deal is a good one. I wouldn't sell one of mine for that, but both have clock drives. I'm thinking $200+ with a clock drive and refurbish when I get around to it. I believe all the RA shafts are the same, with or without drive, and all the RA housings are machined on the end to take a clock drive clamping. Once the retaing ring is removed from the end of the RA shaft, there should be enough length to put on a drive.

Both of my Ed 6" RA shafts are 6" long from the base of the DEC housing to the end.

Hi Neil! Yes, I really thought about getting it, but I'm full up right now (translation: the living quarters are at their maximum scope density!) $100 is a great price for that scope, and clock drives do show up on occasion for right around $100, so the total would be right in the price range you mentioned.

Wow, what a beauty! Some CN'er on the West Coast really needs to get hold of this; it's a rare piece of astronomical history, and pretty decently priced IMO:

Coast Instruments 8" f/6 Treckerscope

Note the neat red map light on the pier and the 4-hole rack on the cradle to hold eyepieces.

Looks like there`s a 20mm Meade Research grade and a Meade Series II eyepiece in the mix.

I don't "do" Coulters unless they're pre-dobsonians, though.

Definitely some interesting accessories, though.

I had one of these 13.1" that would clearly show mars ice caps and Saturn ring split while Saturn looked like it was surrounded by moons. Has a great mirror. Very rare for a coulter to be this good. Should have made a truss tube dob out of it. Regret selling that scope.

I saw that one. Had some pictures too, but unfortunately deleted them. It was a 60mm FL910.

Circa 1908 Antique Broadhurst Clarkson 600x Equatorial Refractor Telescope.

Interesting shaped mount box. The specs quoted in the ad look like they come from a leaflet describing a Japanese telescope and not the one in the ad though.

Edit:corrected hotlink

"Interesting" photo, zero feedback and it's "new"!!!
And it's a Meade too!!! The rarest of all Unitrons...
What could possibly go wrong? But maybe I'm just an unfair cynic.

Interesting looking scope. The mount doesn't look older than the 50s, though, and I think Broadhurst Clarksons were made in some form even more recently than that, assuming the mount is original to the OTA.

I should have looked at the rest of the pics. I searched for "charles frank ltd eyepiece" and found he'd published a book about astronomy in 1959. Also, plastic cover on the mount. So, I'd guess definitely in the late 50s or into the 60s even.

-Tim.
