Tom, you've done an extraordinarily professional and workmanlike job on that mount! Quite frankly, it looks like it's just been unpacked from its shipping crate.

Watching this thread with interest...

Fred

Thanks Fred,
Thats what I strive for , like new original condition, only better. Remember... they are only original once. You can repaint everyday !

Tom,

Nice work on that mount!! It's amazing what a good cleaning, a couple hours of buffing and polishing, and a coat or two of paint will do for these older pieces of equipment....
R

"She's got legs,,,She knows how to use them" (ZZ TOP)... Moving right along , finished the tripod legs today. Straightened the eyepiece tray supports and had to repaint them. Then mixed equal parts of mineral spirts and boiled linseed oil together and took 0000 steel wool dipped in mixture, and applied to the wood, then wipe of excess. P.O.C. (piece of cake)

Not to worry Dave, In fear of using all my Precious, John Paul Miller 0000 steel wool. I went to Lowes and bought some 0000 steel wool so I could save the highly collectable J. P. Miller 0000 steel wool for my heirs.

Tom,

This is probably a dumb question, but what do you use to get such a nice shine on the black parts of the mount?

Steve

....Not a dumb question at all Steve,I use an auto detailing product made by a company named PDP ( Professional Detailing Products). It's a spray wax called SW88 QUICKSPIFF, simply spray on, wipe off...."Wax on Wax off" Daniel son.
