Great picture James. Is that a Corgi? I used to have the Pembroke with the bobbed tail. She was a wonderful companion. She always wanted to heard my girls when they were little. Such a dutiful instinct!

Thanks Terra.

Half of her is Corgi, the other half is Collie, which is where she gets her bushy fox's tail from! We got Cara when she was 3 and she is now nearing 10 but displays no herding instinct at all despite her ancestry. Mind you, as she lives with 4 cats she wouldn't have much luck with herding them in any case.

Sorry for the delay in replying, we drove back up to Scotland from London yesterday and with stops to water Cara and ourselves it took ten and a half hours so just getting back to normal now!

"It was big, shiny chrome, it looked like a '65 Studebaker hubcap only bigger than that barn over there. I saw it in this scope."
"Ok Robert, I think that just about does it, thanks.

The project has started... Cave Astrola 10" Cassegrain F/16 Portable which seems to be in great shape. Mirror has not been removed and the edge is not visible. Astro Lab boxes are being checked out and I think a few eye pieces and diagonal are missing. Hope there are still some folks out there who can assist with questions and problems. I have corresponded with Tom at who is a great resource. Very excited to begin the restoration of Cave Cassy... Bob

Bob, can you post a new thread with pics? Los of pics?

I've got one of these, as does Tom ("Turk"). His thread about his restoration is on page 1 here, as it's currently active.

Mine is just the OTA, but I show it apart, as well:

1965 Cave 10" DK OTA

Here's a pic of it on my Tak NJP mount:

Here is my Super Polaris mounting with a Great Polaris C102 4"f10 achromat. Normally a SP-C102F 4"f9 apochromat belongs on the SP and this GP belongs on a Great Polaris. The Super Polaris has a drive and the GP doesn't so I'm using the SP and I'd forgotten how much purple the achromat shows over the apochromat so I have the GP on the SP for the time being.

Around and around I go, where I stop I don't know.
Last night it was a 80mm refractor. The night before that it was my home made 92mm triplet, before that one was a 10" newt.
I just brought out my C5. This is the reintroduced C5, remember Celestron stopped making the C5 for a while.

From left to right: My Coulter Odyssey Compact 10.1" dob, me and my friend Vinnie. Vinnie lived on a hilltop in West Sand Lake, NY where the skies were very dark. Unfortunately, on the weekend of the 1992 Perseid meteor shower, they were also very cloudy. We spent most of the weekend watching his neighbor mow his lawn.

I find myself grabbing that second generation C5 more and more often.
Celestron calls it a "spotter" and I use it with my Unistar alt-az which makes it a really nice set up.
It is a optical marvel.

Robert

I agree, I like my orange C5 very much, it's an ideal balance between aperture and portability.

Yes the green Dynascope is absolutely the coolest looking scope.
I can't believe how perfect that color is for it.

Robert
