Nice scope and great find Norm! Don't see many F/5s, but if you click on the link in my signature below there is a thread about mine. Enjoy, love those Caves .

Nice thread on your f/5. What a great story as well!

I'll post a few pictures more of the mount, OTA, and finder.

Nice looking telescope. Regarding the mirror, I would give it a run on the night skies. The images may look fine. The scratches don't look all that bad, however it may be how the light caught them in your photos.

Nice find. The mount looks a little rough but hopefully it mostly cosmetic. Congratulations!

Internal shot of OTA. What would be the best way to resurface the interior? Flat black paint? Flocking? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Is this a stock finder? It's made in Japan...

The finder will need a little work. However, the glass looks like it will be okay.

Thanks for all the comments guys. Does anyone have a manual out their or a break down diagram for dismantling these mounts? I want to know how to operate the mount so I don't screw up anything trying to use it or while taking it apart.

Thanks!!

Norm

The mount moves smoothly. Also, it looks like the clock drive for RA works smoothly as well. Cosmetics definitely need work though...

I am getting ready to repaint the inside of my Cave 12.5 inch. I plan on using Stone texture paint and then going with a ultra flat black over that.

Looks exactly like mine on my 1975 12.5 inch including the electrical tape!

Did you get the 2" adapter with yours? I did not get mine even though I bought it from the original owner.

Nope. Got hosed as well! It was an estate sale so unfortunately the original owner had passed away. I got the telescope and box full of random stuff. Some of it I'm selling in the classifieds to recoup some of my costs. Unfortunately, no 2" adapter was to be found. I have to check the diameter and thread. Hopefully there's an adapter out there...

On a side note, anyone reading this thread and is looking for some Celstron Kellners or EPSCorp Orthos or maybe a Sidereal drive corrector, I have all of that and more for sale in the Cloudy Nights classifieds. If you want to see a ton of pictures, you can also see my listing on Astromart (add# 844768). I'm selling off the other stuff that was part of my Cave purchase that wasn't directly for this telescope. The glass on the EPs are in nice condition. I have a bunch of Televue's so I prefer to use those on my telescopes over the others that came with the Cave.
