And finally, get SkySafari 4 Pro while it's still on sale ($19.99 through January 20th)!

Downloaded it but it will not load up on my 5S iphone. Will wait and try it on what ever pad I end up with.

Thanks for helping me spend my money hahaha. Like I really need help

Update, it did finally load and start. Big file so maybe it took that long to get it all. Looks nice. Can I uninstall all the older versions still on the iPhone?

I just went through the whole which iPad thing. I tried a mini and I tried an air and I went with the air. Found it to be more contarsty and better to see. Brightness was about equal.

You can uninstall older versions (SkySafari 3) if you want. If you have observing lists or saved settings that you really want, be sure to copy them off using iTunes File Sharing before you delete SS3.

Could you go into more detail about how to do this?

Thanks,

I have been so busy with other things I missed the release of SS4 and almost missed the sale on SS4 PRO. Glad I came out here tonight and saw that there was one day left on the sale. I am really looking forward to seeing all the improvements over SS3 PRO. Now I just need to get all my observing lists in there.

Cindy - I'm not Bill, but to share the files, open up iTunes on your computer and select your device with SS3 in the left pane (your iPad, iPhone or whatever). Click on the "Apps" Button at the top of the screen. (You'll see a list of the applications you have on your device and a graphical representation of all your screens on your iPhone/iPad.

Scroll down (using the scroll bar on the right) and you'll see "File Sharing" (Header) with a list of apps below it. Find SS3 and click on it. Your list(s) will have a file name(s) with a .skylist (i.e MyFavorites.skylist) suffix. Click and drag to your desktop. (If it is MyFavorites.skylist that is the Default file name and you'll need to rename the file (SS3.Skylist as an example - You just can't copy an identical filename) before continuing. You then drag the file on your desktop to the SS4 App (in the File sharing portion of iTunes.) This will put the observing list in your new app and you can confirm my looking at the bottom of the search button in SS4 to confirm your imported list is there.

If that sounds to complicated, let me know and I'll try to post some screenshots to help you out. I probably made it sound harder than it really is...

Clear skies...

No plans to do so at this time. That doesn't mean we are not always reevaluating that position.

Thanks for the reply, I understand your position, during christmas time and even right now, the surface 2 is sold out in most places and from what I was told is the demand is high, I do think Microsoft did not intend to see such high sales and decided to stock only so many, but I had a chance to use the surface 2 for a while and I did find it a nice tablet to use, it is much different then the ipad, what I liked about it was the fact you can tweak it to your own personal likings, also the ability of adding a microSD card and a usb 3 port, it did make things much easier if you are doing a-lot of transferring.
wether the surface survives and or thrives is yet to be seen, my bottom line is that I do like it although the availability of 3rd party apps are limited.

Bill I emailed support yesterday wondering why the gyro feature has been removed from SS4 pro? I know the iphone 5 compass has improved but still suffers from interference thus making the gyro, at least my situation, a highly useful feature. Hoping it can be added to a future SS4 update.

Bill:

Do you have any idea when the Android version will be ready?

Thanks

Jon

At least a month. Probably a bit more.

The compass function on my new SS4+ seems quite a bit smoother than the SS3+ version. I wonder if it's gotten good enough for manually aiming a shortish FL scope using one of those phone or tablet brackets?

Has anyone tried this yet?

Thanks,
David

Thanks...

I am looking forward to the new Android version but I am more than happy with the current version, waiting a month.. no biggie.

Waiting a month when there was no Android version, now that was different, nerve racking, stressful to say the least. I had sneak around and frequent dark corners so no one could see that I had a iPhone 3G just so I could use Sky Safari.

Such temptation, what a guy will do when the pressure's on.

Jon

Jon: +1 on the Android version - I am also patiently waiting for the new release (and I am still very happy with the 1.8.5 release).

It really did suck before the Android version of Sky Safari first came out (when my old Windows Mobile PDA died and I couldn't use Astromist any more).
