I think I am getting tired of talking about Scopes/equipment. So to show that we do observe (when sky permits) here are my top ten viewing targets:
M8 Lagoon Nebula
M13
M16
M31
M45 'The Pleiades
M51 whirlpool Galaxy
M57 Ring Nebular
The SWAN
M81/82 (I count it as one-they are so close!)
M104 Sombrero galaxy
What are your top ten targets?

Just for kicks, I'd throw M42 and the DC on my list somewhere.
Plenty of Top 10s in the Southern Sky as well.

In order
1. Ngc-4565
2. M-51
3. Virgo Cluster
4. Ngc-4631 with (Ngc-4627 and Ngc-4656)
5. M-104
6. M-33
7. Leo Trio (M-65, M-66, Ngc-3628)
8. Ngc-2903
9. Ngc-3190 Grp (Hickson 44)
10. Ngc-4449
Man, this was tough for all ten. Some others could make the list, like Ngc-2683, or the view I had a few years ago of the Ngc-3995 group in the 22" dob.
Ones that will always be on my list is the top 3. They cannot be replaced.

I apologize for the last post. I'm new to this forum and will strike out the the last objects from my list. The are not deep sky objects.

You would really need two lists. One for the big scopes and one for the smaller. And 10 is NOT enough but I'll give a sampling. In no particular order.... Big scope list: NGC891 Abell 426 M33 NGC2903 M2 M42 M51 NGC7331 & environs Stephans Quintet Veil Nebula
Small scope list: Double Cluster M31 M46 / NGC2438 M35 / NGC2168 M37 Markarians Chain (M84-M86 area) M81 / M82 M8 M45 M57

Of all the extended deep-sky objects that I've observed, these ten are my current off-the-top-of-my-head favorites:
1. The Large Magellanic Cloud (including NGC 2070)
2. The Small Magellanic Cloud
3. NGC 5139 - Omega Centauri
4. NGC 104 - 47 Tucanae
4. NGC 3372 - The Eta Carinae Nebula (including the Homunculus Nebula)
5. The Cygnus Loop (Veil Nebula complex)
6. M42
7. NGC 1365
8. NGC 3532
9. M51 (including NGC 5195)
10.B86 - The Ink Spot Nebula
I'll post rich-field and large aperture lists for northern latitudes at a later time.
