HI all,
Like to observe deep sky objects? Like to write? If the answer to both questions is yes, drop me a line. I have a little project I want someone to tackle. I'm also willing to send you the astro book of your choice from Amazon for your assistence.
Thanks

Hello there Allister,
Perhaps, you may wish to specify some pre-requisite. For instance,
o Skill level of the observer (must be over 18 years of observing ?) o Minimum aperture mandate (20-inch perhaps ?) o Sky darkness (NLM mag 4.0 ?) o Etc.
Thanks, Ron B[ee]

Hey Ron,
Pre-reqs are quite simple. Be able to write, have a reasonable level of experience observing deep sky objects and want to help out. That pretty much covers it.

Allister;
Ron B[ee] has some good points there
Having a scope over 20" sounds reasonable to me.
And are we talking English only here?

Ron(x2),
We'll start with English - bonus points for anyone who can translate into Spanish.
20" sounds reasonable to me too but we are mostly concerned about some deep sky stuff surrounding a small scope and a beginner.
Speaking of which - anyone on this group use one of the big guns?

Allister;
I have a medium gun (provided 20" is the standard Big Gun starts with) in a an usual 16" center mounted mirror. Hope to have it at deep sky; I mean Dark Sky site on the 31st.

Hey,
I always think of a "big gun" as starting at 18". Don't know where or how I got this definition stuck in my mind.
My biggest is a 12.5" dob. Like Tom, I can only wish for something really big.
Rob - did you build your 20"?

If Brothers Gillies are busy I can translate it into Canadian hey.
Can't believe RonB[ee] is bi-lingual. So much talent in a small package.

Ubly is a little village (yes village) in the upper thumb area of Michigan, 10 miles south of Bad Axe, if that helps... If you were wondering where because of Tom's Yooper talk, don't be alarmed that we're not in the UP. He graduated from Michigan Tech, and I'm working on graduating from Northern right now, so that's why we're excused to talk like Yoopers. BTW, I'm makin pasties for supper tonight! =)

Have you taken your scope to Lake of Clouds yet? Years ago I tried downhill skiing on telemark ski's there. Just about killed myself.
There was a high risk of hitting deer on the way down. Herds of them in the woods that you got a good look at as you road the lift up to the top. Like squirrels in front of cars, they would bolt in front of folks, or right after a group, across the slope into the woods on the other side.
I firmly believe animals have a sense of humor.
