I guess we've been pretty lucky down here. Almost every night this month has been clear. Now if I could just motivate myself to get off of Cloudy Nights and set up my scope. Lol!

Clear at times but very Hazy here - cant image at all as the stars light up the haze and wash out everything... or the moon is full on the only nights when you get decent seeing...

Hauled my scope and everything out to cool down, sky was clear. Went out an hour later for final set-up and...overcast! Hauled everything back in. Daily exercise, I guess. She looks disappointed...

Ha, that's true. I set up a couple nights when the CSC and Accuweather predicted a cloudless sky, only to be fogged out around 10:00. Frustrating...

It has been really bad in this part of Iowa too. The least it could do is rain or snow if it's going to be cloudy, and relieve this drought. All clouds and no precip make dochilie a dull boy.

You forgot the growing season......

And to add insult to injury, December is historically a cloudy month in the Great Upper Midwest.

I do seem to be making more gear-related purchases and actually making progress on my various astro projects so it's got some upside......I do miss sunlight.

You'r right....it blows.

I second Mike in Memphis, and it makes sense. I'm in Central Virginia. You guys need to come 'n join us down in the Mid-Atlantic states. We just recorded the second-driest November in history; virtually every night has been cloudless and crystal clear.

But cold! ##$%& COLD!!!

The area climatology experts are saying we're going to pay for this, however, They're calling for a warm December, until the final week, when the "bottom" is supposed to "drop out" -- giving us a January and February that are supposed to be, so they say, for the record books -- from here up into the Northeast.

My friends in D.C., Philly, NYC and Boston -- you'd better get your observing in, in between the clouds, while you can!

Meade

Had one of the most filthy putrid winters here I can ever remember. My area recorded over 20 rain days in each of May, June, July and August.

Spring was not much better, lots of cloud and muck, and even now as we enter our so-called summer, the forecast calls for 18-20C highs with showers every day We just can't seem to get out of this cycle of regular almost daily onshore winds and cold fronts, it's like a Justin Bieber CD that's stuck on repeat.

Def a unique weather change. Prairies are normally dry however it feels like living in Ontario with this daily humidity and almost solid clouds.
With the average 2 days a month with actual seeing a patch of the night sky its hard to keep what I learn lol.

SE PA has been horrible. Last time I used my scope was 16 days ago at the LVAAS star party. If it ain't cloudy, it's the moon. If it ain't the moon, it's poor seeing. Then there's the porch lights... sheesh. OK, enough venting...

Clear tonight in Eastern PA for the first time in at least 10-14 days. Unfortunately, temp is diving and it's blowing about 20 knots. Not a problem as the 6SE is still in its box awaiting Christmas, so I'm grabbing the 10X50 binocs until my lips turn blue.

Same here in Vancouver.
We had a great long and dry summer with lots of clear nights.
But it's been terrible lately. I haven't had a decent night since October! It was clear [sort of] last night, but the seeing and transparency was so bad it was not worth setting up. We still have not reached freezing temperatures yet. Maybe when we do, we will finally get some clear skies.

Tonight about 11:45 I went outside, looked up, saw clear skies, and so decided a driveway observing session for maybe an hour or two would hit the spot before going on to bed. Got my reflector collimated, went outside, observed for about 5 minutes, and...SHEZAM! here come clouds rolling quickly in. I did get a decently sharp view of Jupiter with the best view of the GRS in quite awhile, lots of swirls in the main two cloud belts visible and a few of the more subtle bands more toward the respective poles could be made out as well. I managed to hurriedly catch the Trapezium E and F, M35, M37, and M41 before the sucker holes shrunk too much to make continuning worthwhile. Oh well, the session was a nice 10, maybe 15 minutes while it lasted. The forecast for the rest of the week isn't too promising here either. I'm not counting on our Club's Geminid meteor shower observing session coming off later this week at what passes for our "dark" site.

Late fall/early winter around central North Carolina has not only been atypically more often cloudy than usual, but also milder than usual. There have been only a couple of days so far barely chilly enough to produce a light frost that disappeared very quickly under a warming sun that produced mild temperatures by mid-morning. However, the relative mildness-relative-to-normal night conditions are themselves a bit problematic in that it's retarded my usual personal adjustment to cooler temperatures. Thus, night temps in the mid-40s F still seem at first uncomfortably chilly to venture out in to my still-tuned-to-Indian-summer senses, rather than welcomely warm to senses properly tuned to winter or early springtime. It's inhibited me from going out a few times so far when I really should have during periods of clear weather.

They are so big they sound like a squad of B57's
One on each shoulder off you go and your done for..
The Native Americans called them "Birds with teeth"

orion61 - Thanks for reminding me about the mosquitos. With the clouds and wind (?jet stream?), my observing this fall hasn't been anywhere near as good as the summer (that hot high pressure "dome" that caused the drought was fantastic!)... but you're right, at least there aren't any skeeters! Gives me something to be thankful for. And maybe this wed-fri clear high pressure thing will pan out.
