Well my wife surprised me with a new toy to use, a DSLR camera. I love photography and she figures we can take rides and hikes and I can take pictures while we are doing these things and it isn't based on clear skies or clouds. This is a good thing since I have only had 2 set up trials uses with my new scope in the backyard and only 1 dark site use of the scope since October. Today I used my snow blower to move another 6 inches that fell just today from those clouds above. My daughter got the same gift so we can share in our passion of photography together.

I got "Deep-Sky Wonders" and "The Night Sky Observer's Guide" vol. 1 and 2. They are excellent, better than I had hoped.

As I mentioned in another thread, my sister gave me a considerable amount of money with the condition that I had to get or do something nice with it. Not just pay bills. So, I got myself a SolarMax 60 telescope. I'll be selling my 40 I guess.

I requested -- and received! -- a Joos Orange solar charger, for those long weekends off the grid and under the sky. http://solarjoos.com/products. The bad news I won't be enjoying such a weekend for a few months, now.

A Celestron C14 HD on a Pro...........no, wait a minute, that was my wish list. I also got a small chunk of material from the outer reaches of the solar system from Explore Scientific for registering my recent purchases. What I did get was a 2" visual back for my C9.25. Now I can use the 2" EP's I got from ES!

Explore Scientific 82 Degree 11mm on its way to me tomorrow!

And some books: Stephen Hawking A Brief History of Time and The Universe in a Nutshell, Sagan's A Demon Haunted World and Neil deGrasse Tyson's Death by Black Hole.

I picked up a 35 Pan, 17T4 and 9T1, all used as I am thinking about getting back into the world of wide-field eyepieces.

Not exactly an astronomy tool, but cool nonetheless. I received a 150 gram meteorite from the 1947 Sikhote Alin meteorite fall in Russia. It's pretty neat to hold an actual piece of outer space in your hand!

ES 11mm and 18mm 82 degree eyepieces, Orion deluxe accessory tray, and Nikon 10x50 binoculars. Also got the small chunk of meteorite from ES. Very nice touch for their customers.

And....lot of clouds too.

Folks, I got a modest group of gifts; "Star Testing" by Suiter, more cerium oxide for a mirror blank I'm figuring and a green laser pointer.
Peace, Bill

Rain and clouds most of the time, and a near-full moon the other few bits.

I'm at a point where I need more clear, dark, moonless night opportunties than I do more equipment.

Just down the road from me is a guy that does a lot of corporate entertaining for his business.
At the start of the New year he lets me have his left-over Fortnum & Mason wooden wine presentation boxes.
Can you believe that he use to chuck these away. They are well made, and make great storage boxes.
Best of all, I get them free.

Very nice indeed. I'm glad you're using them - shame for those to be trashed.

Happy New Year!
Randy
