This really is a beautiful image. I'll have to print this one!

One of the advantages of being a photographer is owning a high quality 44" printer. I just resized this new Horsehead to 24x22" and will print it later tonight.

My office walls already have three other Hubble images: a 40x52" of the 30 Doradus Star Forming Region, a 40x40" of Arp 273 (Galaxy Rose), a 24x24" of a spiral galaxy and a 12x24" of Saturn. My walls are getting full, but it sure looks nice in here.

Its also something how with this much resolution and depth to the image, it takes on an entirely different look; so much so that its namesake seems less appropriate. What would we have called it if these were our first images? For me there is a vague mushroom or helmeted appearance. Bottom line it is truly spectacular!!!

I think we're gonna need a bigger 'scope.

Did anyone notice how many galaxies there are in the background? Dozens and dozens if not hundreds! Edge on spirals, face-on spirals. Barred spirals. Elipticals. It goes on and on.

Go to the high-res link, download the high res version, then click on it to expand to full resolution and spend a few minutes browsing at every point above the horses head. There must be as many galaxies as there are field stars. It is amazing!

An incredible image at many levels.

I was thinking the EXACT same thing. It's absolutely mind blowing how many THOUSANDS of galaxies we can't see because it is obscured by the nebula itself. There must be hundreds in that photo... with billions of stars in each of them. Just grasping the scale of that is unreal.

Absolutely beautiful. NEWBIE ALERT: the next time you see this it will be on the box of a department store scope near you.

The shame of it all is that you could be right.

Thanks for the laugh! Hasn't that ad lib line from "Jaws" come in handy through the years?!?

But seriously, I think this is my favorite Hubble image yet.
