Out last night trying to get a picture of the Rupes Recta feature and decided to do a set of shots of the entire lit up section and I think that same mountain caught my eye. If I got it right this is tha same mountain with the lighting on the opposite side. If I got the wrong one I am sorry, it just seemed to be sticking up like a finger and I couldn't resist.

Thanks for the neat table. if the weather is bad, we get a couple of days to see them well lit up. I watch out for them whenever I can.

Thanks Mark, I just got the new neximage 5 and man it sure does zoom in. I had to use it with the focal reducer on my cpc1100 to get that shot. From what I saw this morning which is the first light for it this is going to be a fun imager. Ordered it from astronomics last sunday and got it tuesday, that is what I call fast service.

I feel your pain, haven't had any luck with the weather since I got that last pic. Hope you get some clear skys soon. We are supposed to get some bad weather tomorrow so maybe that will clear things up finally instead of just this mess hanging around making it so you can't see through the sky.

Herr Star Gazer,
Last night 8/25 at about 9:00p.m., moon phase 67% I too saw
the 'finger'. Also along the terminator, mountain peaks are illumintated so as to appear as floating lights.
A blue/yellow filter combination gives the most pleasing view. Any one else use color filters whilst observing Luna?

I use a neutral density filter sometimes when it is over half. Hadn't really thought about using other colors. I might give that a shot next time and see how that looks. Sounds like you got some had some great sites Kraus.
Looks like I can see it up there Red Brick, good job.

Our friend is back. The last few nights were wiped out by travelling. tonight I had to dodge clouds and trees to look at the Apollo 11 landing area, Mons pico and Mons Piton (nice little shadow behind each one) and then to a beautiful chain of 3 peaks with pointy shadows near Kepler. More WOW! The moon is always good, and more so right now with the passing of Neil Armstrong.

Herr Star Gazer,
I use an ND 25 as well. That darned moon at gibbous phase sure can be blinding. I wish my clear skies would coincide with S&T's monthly moon libration articles. A glimpse of one or two would be neat-o!

I have used yellow or orange filters with what I consider to be good results. It doesn't hurt to experiment with whatever you have & see how you like it.

Thanks to Edosaurus for the sunrise & sunset table. I was ready on Saturday but the clouds were not. But last night it cleared and our friends were brillianly lit up. Seeing was not that good, but I watched for a while through the boiling atmosphere. I am at the cottage - the 8" Dob is there for good now...
