You're welcome. No Lunar X for me tonight I'm afraid.

Here's a photo of the last Lunar X (and V) apparition that I observed.

No X for me tonight. I am pretty sure central Ohio will be clouded in all evening! Ah, AGAIN!!!
dana t
PS - I stand by my posts from long ago that this is a "somewhat rare event" meaning that if it only happens a few times a year at your location when the Moon is visable (Moon is up, and hasn't set yet) AND when it's cloudy or something; you may only get one good chance to see it in a year.... Maybe more, maybe less...

There are a number of observers here in the Canadian Maritimes that are following the development of the X from a point of light, through an L shape, then a T shape, and soon an X shape!

Clear skies this evening in Western TN have allowed me to watch the Lunar X form for the last 45 minutes or so. Right now at 7 PM Central, the formation is shaped like a cross with the southern arm not yet fully illuminated.

It's been prime viewing of the X and V here tonight. Thanks to those that posted the information. I was able to share it with my astronomy club members.

Not the best shot, but it was the first night of playing around with a old webcam that I converted to hook up to the telescope. This was about 9PM Eastern, outside Charleston, SC.

The skies cleared for a spell sometime prior to 10:00 p.m. EST so I pulled my grab-'n-go Newtonian, a 6" f/8 Orion XT6 Dob, out of the garage and was able to observe the Lunar X and Lunar V after all. I used a 30mm Celestron Ultima and an 8-24mm Vixen zoom eyepiece.
I also looked at Jupiter and the four Galilean satellites, M45, M42, NGC 1981, Sigma Orionis, Struve 761, Castor, and Rigel as the clouds began to roll back in.

OK the other pics look so much better but mine is through 25X100 Zhumell binocs with a standard digital camera held with the Orion steady pix deluxe. Still not to bad but not as clear as with a scope. Some day when I get my Orion XX14g I'll get some better shots.

Had great skies to see the Moon and the X. Many other little lights and formations on the tops of craters. I have another marking just left and above of the X that almost looks like a second X. Any ideas what it is? Thanks, Bob

Here's my rough drawing from 9:30 p.m. AST. I used a 12" Sky-Watcher f/5 with a 6 mm eyepiece for 250x.
