Yes I have tried Google several times, even went as far as entering Purbach X but to no avail, I'm open for any suggestions, Thanks for your help. My orinigal list came from "someone" on Cloudy Nights, I guess I need to dig back through some papers and see if I can find the orinigal and maybe even post their address hoping they spot it THANKS again

I do not know of any website dedicated to this. However, myself and a few others on here seem to post that info a few times a year on here and other sites... (Ed, Dave Chapman, others)
The predicted "start" times usually vary just a few minutes among posters and don't present a big problem since you should be ready to observe or image well before the "X" is fully formed, right? :-)
My 2013 predicted "Start times" (for fully formed X) for the First Quarter Lunar X are below:
1-19 0801 UT 2-17 2233 UT 3-19 1154 UT 4-17 2357 UT 5-17 1056 UT 6-15 2121 UT 7-15 0746 UT 8-13 1844 UT 9-12 0642 UT 10-11 1950 UT 11-10 1005 UT 12-10 0105 UT

Most common names for this seem to be, (but not limited to) are:
Werner X Lunar X Purbach Cross Lunar Cross Purbach X Werner Cross
Did I miss any??? :-)
OH, this is NOT the same illumination as the "Curtiss Cross"! (different location, different co-long)...

Yeah, it's a few hours late. The X was at it's best during daylight out here on the west coast on 9/21/12. The seeing was great and allowed some decent afocal point and shoot pics after the sun went down.

Dana, Real quick , how do you calulate the times for the upcoming viewing times for the "X" ? I like to watch it form from nothing , so how would one sit and compute the times ( start, fully formed, and end ) just thought I would ask and try to do this on my own instead of always asking others. Thanks Gary a.k.a. LUN-A-TIC

Gary,
I believe Dana uses the Sun's colongitude to make predictions. Dave Chapaman wrote a fantastic article a few years back with a timeline for the formation of the Werner X. Dave does correlate the timeline with other predictions, including mine.

Gary, that's no problem, it makes me feel useful...lol Ed, I use a program that shows many different parameters; but I tend to go on the sun elevation (Sun Alt.) over crater Werner (1.2) to arrive at the "fully formed start time". I think on average it's about every approximately 29 days, 12 hours, and 44 minutes...

Thanks for the kind words, Ed! A version of my 2007 JRASC article can be found at https://dl.dropbox.com/u/17678378/LunarX.pdf if anyone wants to read it.
For those that have the software, I think Dana's solar elevation angle is the way to go to pinpoint the event; however, a simpler method is just to figure out when the colongitude is 358º, which is pretty easy to do these days with a variety of tools. This marks the "peak" of the apparition, although that term is subject to interpretation. Anyway, I would figure out that instant and start observing about 3 h earlier, if you want to see the whole thing develop. The X pretty much appears like clockwork every synodic month, i.e. 29.530589 days. That is the relatively easy part, then you have to figure out if you can actually see the Moon from your observing location at that time. This part of the event seems to confuse a lot of people, as they reckon they should be able to see it every month from the same location.
I will not attempt a lengthy explanation here, but I invite folks to read my article.
I admire you, Ed, for your patience in performing the calculations, posting them, and directing people's attention to them when they ask. It is an interesting phenomenon, and it gets people thinking and talking about the motion of the Moon and the Earth!
Next Tuesday's X is very well placed for observers in North America, Central America, and South America.

Shucks Dave, all I do is open the QBASIC program, enter the year, and less than 10 seconds later I have the dates and times. The compliment is, as always, appreciated.
I agree with you about the X. Just like Alberio can generate an interest in other double stars, once the X is hunted down and viewed it can launch the observer into other lighting specific lunar phenomena like crater rays, or repeat views of things like Hadley Rille at the Apollo 15 landing site. The Moon got a lot more fun after I chased and then spotted the X.

PS - I stand by my posts from long ago that this is a "somewhat rare event" meaning that if it only happens a few times a year at your location when the Moon is visable (Moon is up, and hasn't set yet) AND when it's cloudy or something; you may only get one good chance to see it in a year.... Maybe more, maybe less...

There are a number of observers here in the Canadian Maritimes that are following the development of the X from a point of light, through an L shape, then a T shape, and soon an X shape!

Clear skies this evening in Western TN have allowed me to watch the Lunar X form for the last 45 minutes or so. Right now at 7 PM Central, the formation is shaped like a cross with the southern arm not yet fully illuminated.

The skies cleared for a spell sometime prior to 10:00 p.m. EST so I pulled my grab-'n-go Newtonian, a 6" f/8 Orion XT6 Dob, out of the garage and was able to observe the Lunar X and Lunar V after all. I used a 30mm Celestron Ultima and an 8-24mm Vixen zoom eyepiece.
I also looked at Jupiter and the four Galilean satellites, M45, M42, NGC 1981, Sigma Orionis, Struve 761, Castor, and Rigel as the clouds began to roll back in.

OK the other pics look so much better but mine is through 25X100 Zhumell binocs with a standard digital camera held with the Orion steady pix deluxe. Still not to bad but not as clear as with a scope. Some day when I get my Orion XX14g I'll get some better shots.

September 22, 2012, our astronomy club set up our scopes during a dressy fundraiser dinner called "Wine Under the Stars". The purpose was to benefit the local Science Center where we hold our meetings. It just happened to be the same evening that the X was visible. After a few people came to the scopes, the word spread rapidly that there was an X on the moon. What a hit! We had lines all night. It really engaged people to the event and increased interest in our club.

Nice sketch. I could kick myself for not taking the time at the eyepiece to attempt to document what I see. I keep all the drawing materials right there in the observatory but fail to do it. Thanks for sharing. Be well Grey

Here's Lunar X shot on Oct. 22, 2012 (didn't know it was captured until I read about it in a Facebook astro-forum post the day after):
Lunar X - single hand-held afocal shot thru WO66mm, Baader Hyperion 8-24mm Zoom set to 8mm (48x), Kodak Easyshare digicam in macro mode

I think the first "X" I caught was on my 1st afocal shot with my first digital camera. I didn't know how many people who would like a shot keep getting clouded out during those few hours it's visible. Nice shot BTW Be Well Grey

Sorry that photo died along with a hard drive in a computer that died a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away.
I hope your success in your capture encourages you to keep shooting the sky. Be Well Grey

Great sketch, Dave!
Thanks, Carol, you taught me all I know, but I think I can do better. I was making pretty rough sketches to capture the evolution of the X, not trying too hard to include all the subtle variations in grey level. It was pretty cold out!

Yes it does - see the Purbach Cross (Lunar X) - Sunset Viewing Project thread in this forum. I posted a composite picture comparing the sunrise and sunset views.

Good job. Just a little up from your pic top is the Lunar "V". You have a chance to catch this again tomorrow (Sunday the 17th of Feb). Here in Tucson it occurs at 3:30 in the afternoon, but at 49 degrees Alt it should be visible.

I just came in from a very cold and blustery evening. I've been observing the Moon and Jupiter with one of my small telescopes, a 6" f/8 Orion SkyQuest XT6 Dob. The Lunar X and Lunar V are nicely visible at the moment.

Very easy tp observe from Tucson. I started out to get pics..then dropped the camera. gaddabit....
Amazing how easy it was to observe the "V" and "X" even in bright afternoon Sunlight. The 50MM Finder was the only optics that I had to work at to observe with. Also used a TV-76, TEC 140, TEC 250/12 MC

This is a close-up of the Lunar X and Lunar V that I took a bit later. There appears to be a second Lunar X between the two.

It was really bright last night at 7pm here. Best I have ever seen and I was just using my 80mm. There was another X type object just below it too, but thinner I think.
Glad I took the scope out for a quick view as it was very cold out, but very clear and I'm a sucker for those skies:)

Thanks, Rob. Phil Harrington investigated the location before I got around to it and reported that the second X "is formed by the craters Gylden (crater on the right), Sporer (top), and maybe Herschel (left, in shadow)."

Thank you Rob! I just use my little Cannon S100 camera mounted on a Celstron digital camera adapter. It screws over the outside of the eyepiece. You adjust the telescope to best focus for your eyes and let the camera do the rest. The lighted side of the moon is a bit over exposed. I could probably learn to use other options than the fully automatic mode, but this is simple and fun.
