I lost track of where this capture was and can't seem to find it on my Rukl map. Does anyone recognize these features? Taken with 180mm mak, NexImage 5.

Hercules and Atlas are the two large craters in the foreground, Endymion at rear. Your image is mirror-reversed, maybe that's why you couldn't identify the field. Nice shot btw!

I was playing around with the LROC Image Browser @ http://wms.lroc.asu.edu/lroc_browse/view/wac_nearside one day and noticed that really beautiful little bright rayed crater just to the east of Atlas. It doesn't appear to have a name. Just wondering if anyone is familiar with this and does it have a name. It's at Lat. 46.939, Long. 49.889.

I'm guessing the views you're getting, are very similar to those the astronauts had from their windows, while in lunar orbit!! NICE!

That was actually my first impression. Really clean cut sculptural definition well done. What's testament here to the fact that its a fine image is there are greys not blacks defining a lot of the topography. These greyer high angle lit areas can be really tough - but it works here.

Pete, the camera seems to have good tonal range, allows for more natural imaging. Or maybe I'm finally figuring out processing? Or I just got lucky.

Tom - I checked my Rukl Atlas and the list of craters from the IAU and it appears to be unnamed if this is the one you are referring to...

Yes, that's the one. I also checked it using the Virtual Lunar Atlas and it was unnamed there. I think it's a very young crater. I was able to see it easily last Full Moon with my 5' as a very prominent bright spot just east of Atlas.
I saw this crater in the picture at the opening of this topic and that tipped me off that one of the un-id'd craters in the original photo was Atlas.
Thanks!

Probably not recognized by he IAU, but it's at least as 'official' as the "Name a Star" certificates.
